Madonna as art critic? Twitter makes it so

The Material Girl is taking to Twitter to give users input on their own (artistic) material.

On Tuesday, Twitter users will be able to tweet artistic work like poetry, images, and 6-second Vine videos to Madonna using the hashtag #artforfreedom, and the recording artist will be online to provide feedback on users' work. Madonna is calling it a 'live art curation,' and it will start at 1:30 p.m. PT.

The event is part of a partnership Madonna just launched with the hashtag's namesake, Art For Freedom, an initiative that encourages artwork on the topic of social justice.

Last week, the singer introduced a grant program in which she'll pick one artist a month over the next year, and donate $10,000 to the nonprofit or project of his or her choice.

The singer and her management have been flexing their digital chops lately. In September, Madonna unveiled the Art For Freedom partnership with a 17-minute video released with Vice magazine. The vid is downloadable on BitTorrent.

The event also comes amid a Twitter press frenzy. The social network last week made its IPO filing public, and any cross-media integrations that showcase Twitter's influence and usefulness will likely only help the company's strategy as it leads up to its market debut. On Monday, Nielsen said it would release a report that tracks Twitter chatter about television shows, in addition to its traditional audience-viewing metrics.

Tweet-by-tweet highlights from @MadonnaMDNAday

•First album ever bought: David Bowie's Aladdin Sane

•She's 'gagging' to host Saturday Night Live and is obsessed with cast members Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig.

•Madonna tweeted to Britney Spears she wants to kiss her again! Unfortunately, Brit Brit only responded with a vague 'Tempting.'

•Katy Perry asked Madge a genuinely thoughtful question, tweeting 'Which evolution of you in your career has been your favorite/most fulfilling?' Madonna responded, ''Ray of Light.' That was a good moment. I wanna see you in the from row somewhere this year. Okay?' Never an opportunity missed.

•In an extended tweet chat with Lionel Richie, she congratulated the singer on his own recent chart-topping album Tuskegee. Richie's album debuted at #2, right below Madonna's #1 album MDNA this week. Richie tweeted, 'There is no one I would rather be on top with. Congratulations! I am so happy for you!' Madonna joked, 'Ok, but as long as I'm on top.' Oh my!

•Last Halloween, she was Minnie Mouse.

•Madonna wants Quentin Tarantino to direct the video for her latest single 'Gang Bang.' Apparently she's already contacted him and he's actually making her wait!

•In response to silver fox Anderson Cooper's congratulatory tweet, Madonna flirted, 'Do u miss me? Do you want me to come back and visit you in a leather dress? What suit are you wearing?'

•She is an excellent driver, only received a ticket for having too-tinted windows (which she certainly needs).

•If she could time travel, she'd attend Martin Luther King Jr's peace march in Washington.

•Her favorite Superbowl moment: Not M.I.A. flipping the bird, but when the audience stood up during 'Like A Prayer'

•Of all the A-List participants, Madonna singled out one person with a most generous offer to open for her, even tweeting 'I worship you.' Who could be so lucky? Why, Skrillex of all people! The half-haired DJ hasn't yet responded (apparently his Twitter mentions haven't refreshed in four days), but it would certainly make for an interesting show.

•For Madonna's final tweet, she wrote, '#Obama2012: Are you coming to my show in Washington, D.C.? Make a girl from Detroit happy.' He can sit next to Katy Perry.

Madonna's long wait for Tarantino

Madonna has revealed how Quentin Tarantino turned down an invite to direct her music video.
The chart-topping superstar, whose new album MDNA is reigning high in the number one spot around the world, admitted she wanted the Kill Bill filmmaker to direct the music video to her single, Gang Bang, in a Twitter chat.
'He's shooting a movie til June. That's no excuse. I'm still waiting for his call. Every little thing...' she said.
When asked what she would do if she was invisible for a day, she added: 'I would follow Quentin Tarantino around for a day and see if he is really too busy to direct Gang Bang.'
Madonna - who was posed questions by celebrity friends Lionel Richie, Britney Spears (whom she asked for a kiss) and Katy Perry - also revealed how she wants to appear on US comedy show Saturday Night Live.
'FOR SURE. I'm gagging to do it. I'm obessed with Kristen Wiig and @AndySamberg. I want to do a skit with Kristen and Lola,' she wrote.
And the 53-year-old, who was previously married to British director Guy Ritchie, admitted that she's partial to certain UK chocolates.
'Cadbury Creme Eggs. Don't get me started - they are so good,' she added.

Madonna to Britney: 'Come on stage and kiss me again'

Here’s something that’ll make you feel ancient: It’s been nearly nine years since Madonna kissed Britney Spears at the VMAs. Nine years! If it were a person, that kiss would be in third grade. It’s older than YouTube, Facebook and Suri Cruise!
But I digress. Apparently, Madge and Brit-Brit both have fond memories of the Smooch Heard ‘Round the World. The two pop icons engaged in some harmless flirting on Twitter yesterday after Britney congratulated Madonna on her new album, saying, 'every single song is incredible.'
Madonna’s first @-reply was swift and cheeky. 'please come on stage and kiss me again,' she wrote. 'I miss you!!'
Britney shot back with a coy 'Tempting...', which inspired Madonna to tease, 'Are you gonna make me work for this?' Britney’s response? 'Why of course!' And with that, a thousand fanfiction writers flexed their fingers and started typing.

Madonna vs. Piers Morgan: Twitter Edition

As many of you astute pop-culture watchers already know, Piers Morgan ain't wild about Girl Gone Wild Madonna.
The CNN host has been engaged in a glorious public spat with the pop star, mercilessly ripping her for being—let's have the list, shall we? - a 'con artist,' 'barbaric,' 'grotesque' and 'gruesome.' (Somebody forgot to take his happy pills today.)
He's also saying that she's not welcome on his show.
Whoa, there: Not so fast, says Madonna's camp, and they've dug up evidence to prove him wrong.
Shall we get to the bottom of things?
On Monday, Morgan tweeted, 'Welcome to Twitter @MadonnaMDNAday - you're still banned from my show. Love Piers x,' referencing Madge's one-day-only Twitter promo blitz for her new album, MDNA.
But after getting wind of the diss, the pop star's manager, Guy Oseary, tweeted Morgan back last night, saying, 'Really??' and attaching a copy of an invitation the singer received to appear on Morgan's U.K. show.
The letter, which was sent last October, reads:
'Piers Morgan is delighted to invite Madonna to be a special guest for his LA recording of his UK chat show - where she would be welcome to promote her new film and forthcoming album release (and perform two numbers).'

Oops! Morgan, however, wasn't about to back down.
Shortly after, he tweeted, 'Madonna's only been banned from my #CNN show @guyoseary - not my UK show, which sent that invite. But I'm now banning her from that too.' And then he extended the boycott to her manager as well: 'Oh, and I'm afraid you're banned from all my shows too @guyoseary - guilt by association, sorry.'
For someone who was only on Twitter for a day, Madge's feed has seen lotsa action.
She also got into a Twitter tiff with DJ Deadmau5, who accused her of making a drug reference on stage in Miami, to which she posted a hilarious twitpic (see picture below) and response.

Jeez, all that action in just one day. Can we please have the gal back on Twitter for good?

Madonna and DJ Deadmau5 settle drugs row

Deadmau5 and Madonna appear to have settled a dispute, after he accused the singer of promoting drug use.
The dance DJ had labelled Madonna an 'idiot' and 'irresponsible' after he said she was promoting the use of MDMA at a music festival.
Madonna asked the crowd if they 'have seen Molly?' (slang for the drug) at this weekend's Ultra festival in Miami.
Madonna has now replied saying: 'I don't support drug use and I never have.'
During his initial rant on Twitter and Facebook Deadmau5 sarcastically wrote: 'Very classy there Madonna. HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???' Such a great message for the young music lovers at Ultra [sic]'
In a Twitter question and answer session hosted yesterday (26 March) Deadmau5 - whose real name is Joel Zimmerman - and Madonna exchanged views on what had happened.
He said: '@MadonnaMDNAday You're a role model to 100's of millions. You have a powerful voice, EDM [Electronic Dance Music] could use your positive influence, not 'molly' talk.'
Madonna replied denying that she was promoting drug use, saying instead that her question to the crowd was in reference to another song.
'I was referring to the song called Have You Seen Molly? written by my friend Cedric Gervais,' she wrote.
Their exchange continued with a tweet from Deadmau5 to Madonna which said: 'Fair enough, I was just voicing my concerns as I usually do. +1 [sic] respect for clearing it up personally.'
In a fresh blog on his website Deadmau5 wrote: 'I'm not pro, or anti-drug, but I'll easily let you know that I'm pro-responsibility.'
MDMA is an active chemical found in ecstasy.

Super Bowl sets Twitter record

Super Bowl XLVI yesterday broke all records on Twitter as fans worldwide sent more than 10,000 tweets per second during the climax of the sport showpiece.
According to official statistics released by Twitter, the highest tweets per second came at the end of the NFL season finale, at a record-busting 12,233.

The glittering Super Bowl half-time show from Madonna saw an average of 8,000 tweets per second being sent for five minutes, although that peaked at a staggering 10,245.

Madonna chats to fans on Twitter

Madonna is 'glad' she divorced Guy Ritchie.
The 4 Minutes singer was speaking to fans on her long-time friend and producer Guy Oseary's Twitter page when one admirer wrote: 'Hello Madonna honey am glad you are single again - you made your best music as a single woman! yeehaw!'(sic)
Just minutes later the singer apparently replied: 'Not as glad as I am! M.'
The 50-year-old singer spent 10 minutes online chatting to members of her fan club to thank them for their support and get feedback on their favourite songs for her forthcoming greatest hits album.
'Sitting here with Madonna. Firstly, she wants to say hello to all the fan club members out there,' wrote Oseary.
'Madonna wants to thank all of you that took the time to send in their thoughts for the greatest hits album. We will be online for the next 10 minutes.'
Before she signed off, Madonna accused gossip blogger Perez Hilton of preferring Britney Spears because he made a special video clip for her to play during her current Circus tour.
'You obviously love Britney more cause you made an opening film for her show and not mine. I still love you, - going to sleep! - M,'(sic) Madonna joked.
