Madonna & Miley Team for Country-Themed Unplugged

Madonna joined Miley Cyrus for a mash-up of 'Don't Tell Me' and 'We Can't Stop' at Cyrus' barn dance-themed 'Unplugged' show that will air on MTV tonight (Jan. 29) at 9 p.m.

Cyrus embraced her Nashville roots for the special, giving a countrified twist to "Bangerz" material such as '4 x 4,' 'Do My Thing' and '#Getitright' and covering Dolly Parton's 'Jolene.'

'We're trying to bring Nashville here and get people in the country spirit,' Cyrus said on sound stage at Sunset Gower Studios on Tuesday evening. The turnaround of the show in less than 24 hours is the fastest MTV has done in the history of the 'Unplugged' franchise.

'It's been a dream to go live globally, but with the addition of a guest (Madonna), we decided to do a quick turnaround,' MTV Networks Music and Logo Group president Van Tofler told Billboard.

He said MTV is focused on the premiere Wednesday night at 9pm and that down the road they will consider releasing a longer version and will put interview footage and extras online at MTV.com.

MTV UK confirmed to madonnalicious that the show will air in the UK on Thursday 06 February at 9pm on MTV Music.

Madonna duets with Miley Cyrus

Madonna has teamed up with the latest pretender to her throne by performing a duet with chart-topping star Miley Cyrus.

The pop duo shared a stage during a TV special on the younger singer's hits as she recorded an MTV Unplugged programme in the US.

Miley, the 21-year-old famed for her suggestive routines and twerking, played two songs with Madonna, 55, for the stripped-down session filmed in Hollywood.

They are said to have grinded and grabbed each other during their duet on Miley's We Can't Stop and Madonna's Don't Tell Me in the hour-long acoustic show.

Performing alongside Madonna has become something of a rite of passage or seal of approval for young female pop superstars, following shows in which she has collaborated with the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and MIA.

Miley's show featured a number of songs from her latest album Bangerz, including Wrecking Ball, which featured a controversial video in which she appeared naked.

The performance is being screened in the US tonight (January 29) and will be broadcast in the UK at a later date.

Since its debut in 1989, Unplugged has showcased Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey, Adele and Florence + The Machine.

Miley: Madonna Wasn't My First First Choice For 'Unplugged'

Miley Cyrus and Madonna turned it out for 'MTV's Unplugged,' but the 21-year-old initially wanted another music legend to share the "Unplugged" stage with her.

Access Hollywood's Liz Hernandez spoke to Miley as she prepped for her upcoming 'Bangerz' tour, where she revealed who first came to mind when planning the big surprise.

'I just wanted to have a special guest that would be something that no one saw coming, especially with it being 'Unplugged.' I really wanted my [godmother] Dolly [Parton] to be there,' Miley revealed to Liz.

When the country legend couldn't make the show, Miley looked to a different legendary performer.

'[Dolly] had a show on the day of 'Unplugged,' so she wasn't able to be there, so I was like, who can I bring besides Dolly that would be something like that? And I [thought] Madonna... I don't think people would expect her to go on 'Unplugged' like that,' she continued.

But landing Madonna, who performed a mash-up of 'We Can't Stop' and 'Don't Tell Me' with Miley, wasn't even a definite.

'I never knew if it was gonna be possible. We just kind of threw it out there and when I was working on my record I wanted to have her on a song... she was working on her album and then when it was time for 'Unplugged,'' Miley explained.

The young singer was pleasantly surprised when Madonna was up for some playful onstage groping.

'I started grabbing on her and kind of messing around... and then she was like not afraid of that, obviously, because it's Madonna!' she said. 'It was nice to be on stage with someone that isn't afraid of what I'm gonna do, that totally embraces what I'm doing. It was fun and it was awesome.'

Madonna still the reigns as the Queen of the Super Bowl

The half-hour that included Beyonce’s performance at Super Bowl XLVII was one of the most watched segments of the NFL championship on Sunday, hitting an average of about 104 million viewers, Billboard estimates, based on Nielsen data.
Nielsen estimated 108.41 million viewers tuned in for the Super Bowl, making it the third-most-watched program in television history behind Super Bowl XLVI and Super Bowl XLV. Nielsen, heeding CBS’s request, is not counting the 34-minute power outage delay in its ratings.
The halftime show began shortly before 8:10 p.m. ET and between 8 and 8:30, the show did a 48.2 rating, according to Nielsen’s metered market ratings. Based on Nielsen’s math of a little more than two viewers per television set, the viewership is in the 104 million ballpark. It is highly likely that when final numbers are released, Beyonce’s total will be lower than the 104 million estimate.
The block with Beyonce’s 14-minute performance outperformed the previous half-hour by three-tenths of a rating point. The Baltimore Ravens-San Francisco 49ers game peaked, audience-wise, between 10:30 and 10:47 p.m. when an average of 113.982 million viewers were watching.
The audience for Beyonce trailed Madonna’s performance at last year’s Super Bowl. Madge attracted 112.5 million viewers, surpassing the 95.7 million who watched Bruce Springsteen in 2009.

US TV: 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' Tonight

A quick reminder for fans in the US - Madonna's appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' is broadcast tonight (check your local listings for times).

Here is another preview clip from the show. Let us know what you thought of the episode by hitting the 'Comments' button below this story.

Hopefully Madonna and Ellen will keep our East Coast readers distracted from the incoming Hurricane Sandy. Keep safe everyone!

Madonna gets son splashed on TV

Madonna picked her own son Rocco to be drenched in water for charity.
The singer, 54, was asked who she'd like to to choose for the stunt, to raise cash for breast cancer research, on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
'I don't really have to think about it. My son is here here and I want him in that tank,' she said.
Madge told 12-year-old Rocco, whose dad is film director Guy Ritchie: 'You might never get wet, baby. I kind of suck at throwing.'
The pop queen failed to aim correctly in her attempt to splash Rocco, prompting Ellen to step in.
Rocco, who dances on stage during his mum's tour, told the audience that Madonna was 'a very good mother, but she's very strict' and asked what he thinks when she flashes herself on stage, he said: 'I actually don't see that.'
The stunt raised 10,000 dollars for the fight against breast cancer.

Madonna Masks Uncomfortable Questions

Madonna has started hiding her face behind a mask in interviews if she's quizzed on a topic she'd rather not discuss.
The pop superstar told U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres she'd hold the mask in front of her face 'if you ask me a question that I feel uncomfortable with' during a taped chat earlier this week.
The Papa Don't Preach singer added, 'This is going to be a sign that I don't want to answer the question.'
DeGeneres responded by joking, 'You could just say, 'I feel uncomfortable with that question', and not answer it. You can just tell me that.'
Madonna said, 'But this is more theatrical.'
The full interview airs on Monday 29 October.

Norton: 'Madonna was charming but I failed with Kylie'

Graham Norton has revealed what he thought about two of pop’s biggest female stars after they appeared on his chat show.
The Irish comedian told the Daily Mail that despite her reputation, Madonna didn’t act like a diva when he interviewed her on his BBC1 show earlier this year:
'She didn’t make any demands. She came on, and within a few minutes she was on the floor on her hands and knees. She was on a charm offensive.'
When asked how nervous he was about meeting the Queen of Pop, Norton replied: 'Terribly. I was worried it wouldn’t happen. But oddly enough, as soon as she came up the little steps, that was it. I felt it didn’t actually matter what happened after that, because she was on the show.'
'Afterwards we went out for dinner and got really drunk - not Madonna; me and my friends - and the atmosphere all day was incredible. It was like a royal visit.'
But the 49-year-old admitted that his meeting with Kylie Minogue in the late 90s didn’t go so well:
'I failed with Kylie. I’ve seen her on other shows since, and met her myself and she was lovely, but it just didn’t work. I wonder if it was because it was the first series [it started on Channel 4 in 1998] and she thought I was out to get her.'

Inside 'The Ellen Show' taping

madonnalicious reader Randy was at 'The Ellen Show' taping that took place on Tuesday 09 October in Los Angeles:

I was at the Ellen Show on Tuesday when Madonna made a surprise appearance. After the first taping, which aired today, they kept us in the studio and said they had a surprise for us. It was Madonna. She taped the full hour, wore her Gaultier costume with the 'cones' and gave one to Ellen to wear too for part of the interview.
Her dancers showed some of their moves and they did give away the MDNA CD, the Addicted to Sweat DVD, a bottle of her Truth or Dare perfume and a pair of shoes from her collection to each audience member. Rocco was there too and played a dunk tank game with Madonna and Ellen.
I had taken some pics during the interview, but they made me delete them during a break from the show!
I came to L.A. for tonight's MDNA show and just happened to be at Ellen yesterday. It was great!

Madonna tapes 'The Ellen Show' appearance

Madonna taped a full episode of 'The Ellen Show' in Los Angeles yesterday - the show will air in the US on Monday 29 October.

Speedylegz, one of Madonna's MDNA tour dancers also posted this picture and tweet: I Just performed in America's greatest TV show : ELLEN Degeneres Show'.

Does this mean we have a musical performance to look forward to as well? Or maybe a Hard Candy Fitness workout - as she gave out Addicted to Sweat DVDs to the audience?

Madonna wanted for 'The Voice UK'

Madonna is reportedly being lined up to perform on The Voice UK.
Producers are trying to get the 'Hung Up' singer on an upcoming Sunday night results show in a bid to attract record ratings, the Daily Star Sunday reports.
'Getting Madge on to sing is bound to pull in the viewers. You don't get much bigger than her - she's a living legend,' a source told the paper.
'The show has regularly been getting ratings of over ten million. Having Madonna, plus the all-important results, could push it past the 12 million mark.'
'X Factor's finest hour was getting Britney Spears on - but there's no doubt Madonna is a much bigger name. Simon Cowell will be furious if The Voice upstages him with a massive guest performer like Madonna in its first series.'

Madonna: I need to be a 'tougher' mom

After 15-year-old daughter Lourdes was photographed smoking a cigarette, Madonna says she might have to get more strict with her kids.
The singer and single mom, who's cultivated an image as a parental disciplinarian, addresses the photo in an interview on NBC's Rock Center With Brian Williams, airing Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET. The Today show ran a teaser of the sitdown (see video below).
When asked for her reaction to Lourdes' smoking shot, Madonna refers to herself in the third person: 'She wasn't very happy.'
She says she thinks she's a tough parent, 'but honestly, I don't think I'm as tough as I should be. I think I need to be maybe tougher. It's hard - every day is a negotiation. But cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of - for anyone. I don't approve of anyone smoking cigarettes, most of all my daughter.'
Then correspondent Harry Smith brings up a music video of Madonna, ahem, smoking, to which she responds: 'I don't smoke. That's just an accessory, Harry. There's a difference. (Lourdes) smoked that cigarette before I did that video!'
Another hot topic in the interview: downward sales of her latest album, MDNA, a week after hitting No. 1 on Billboard.
'It's hard to be No. 1. It's hard to sell records. It's a lot of competition, and I was extremely elated,' she says of MDNA's initial sales triumph.

Madonna named in the Pop Powerlist

Set to be unveiled in an upcoming show called Pop Powerlist, researchers have calculated the 50 most powerful people in pop music, devising an algorithm that considered an artist’s current assets (i.e. their wealth; social media fan base), alongside their salience (the degree to which they are in demand: measured by recent airplay, media and word-of-mouth buzz, commercial endorsements, awards and web search interest).
Adele topped the list after an unstoppable year that saw her take home six Grammys and two Brits. Jessie J takes second place thanks to her relentless promotional tour, handful of endorsements and high record sales and media plays, coupled with some 3.4million followers on Twitters – while Rihanna is in third thanks to a long series of number ones and some very successful duets.
The research shows the power of the female pop icon in the 21st century, with Madonna, Cheryl Cole, Cher Lloyd and Pixie Lott joining the other girls in the top ten.

The cream of the pop crop is as follows:

10. Pixie Lott
9. Cher Lloyd
8. Jay-Z
7. Cheryl Cole
6. One Direction
5. Ed Sheeran
4. Madonna
3. Rihanna
2. Jessie J
1. Adele

The Pop Powerlist series will air on Monday April 9 at 12.00pm when the full top 50 will be revealed in a two-hour show on 4Music (Freeview 18, Sky 360, Virgin 330).

Madonna's interview for Ukrainian TV

On the day W.E. premiered in New York City, Madonna taped an exclusive interview for Ukrainian TV. In the video snippet below, the journalist, Kate Osadcha, presents Madonna with a Ukrainian shawl. Madonna accepted it as opposed to hydrangeas, which were also presented to her by journalist from the same channel.

'I flew across the globe to be in this chair. And I have a gift for you from Ukraine,' said Kate Osadcha, handing a present to the singer.
'Wow!' said a surprised Madonna.
'This is a real Ukrainian shawl. You won't find a such one In New York. It can be worn either on head or shoulders,' Kate Osadcha added.

Kate Osadcha shared some details of the meeting Madonna the other day:

'Madonna, like all stars, is very professional. She was very friendly, and while the cameras and sound were setting up, we were able to talk behind the scenes. She asked how her good friend Eugene Gutz is known in Ukraine [he performed with Madonna on Live Earth and played a role in her film 'Filth and Wisdom']. In fact, he had a concert in Kiev at this time. And I told Madonna that his concerts had been sold out. She was very glad about that.
At the moment when I was introduced by her assistant, he said that I was a journalist from Russia, I've corrected him and said I was from Ukraine, and Madonna said, 'Don't get confused, it's been a long time that they have been two different states.'
