'Artists Are Here to Disturb the Peace': Madonna and ‘Madame X’ Directors on the Doc’s Message

“Artists are here to disturb the peace” is the one thing Madonna wants viewers to take from her upcoming Paramount+ concert film, Madame X, which premiered at the Times Square Edition Hotel in New York City on Thursday.

And if there’s one thing every person on the red carpet could agree on, it was that Madonna is an inspiration, which is fitting when her pop star status remains today as in ’80s and ’90s. Madame X captures the icon’s unique tour, which limited each show to a couple thousand people and sold out theaters worldwide.

“There was nothing between me and the crowd, and that was an incredible experience,” said Madonna, donning a “Trust No Bitch” necklace and “Fuck You” tiara at the premiere, of her Madame X tour. “I needed to document that - the process, the rehearsals, the show itself, what was in my mind, what inspires certain songs. It’s a different show, it’s a different time in my life.”

The concert film gives viewers a look at the Madame X tour through the eyes of Madonna and her fearless persona, Madame X, a secret agent who travels around the world, fighting for freedom. Nuno Xico, one of the documentary’s directors, says that the album is political - featuring songs about gun control, as well as rights for minorities, women and the LGBTQIA+ community - which, in turn, makes the film political as well.

“If you distill the songs, those themes are already there, so to bring those themes [to the film] was easy,” Xico told The Hollywood Reporter. “Madonna is political.”

Xico and fellow directors Sasha Kasiuha and Ricardo Gomes worked long hours, sometimes six days a week, as Kasiuha noted that collaborating with Madonna was “intense” and “exciting.”

“It’s great. You get to work with someone who has a unique point of view and a unique experience,” Xico added. “It’s really inspiring, honestly. We’re definitely lucky to be able to work with someone like Madonna.”

Apart from her concert film, the iconic pop star also has a biopic in the works, which she’ll direct and co-write alongside screenwriter Erin Wilson, who remembers watching and re-watching Madonna’s Truth or Dare.

“It made many of us feel like, ‘Oh, we can go that far. Let’s do it in our own way, in our venue,'” she told THR. “I don’t know a woman in my life that doesn’t say to me, ‘[Madonna] saved my life. She really, really gave me power to be who I am.'”

The upcoming biopic will follow Madonna’s rise to prominence as the culture-defining artist she is today. Though it’ll detail a different era of her life, there’s one thing she’ll take with her from Madame X to the biopic: her work ethic, with a commitment to “pay attention to detail, to leave no stone unturned, to keep pushing until you get to what you feel is the best possible,” Madonna told THR. “Madame X … is me telling a story about my life.”

Drew Barrymore, designer Christian Siriano and Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski were also in attendance at the premiere event. The concert film starts streaming exclusively on Paramount+ on Oct. 8.

Madonna revealed she has been 'checking in' on her old friend Britney Spears as she congratulated her on her engagement.

Amid Britney's conservatorship battle, the La Isla Bonita singer has been providing her with moral support.

Madonna, 63, was at the premiere of her new documentary concert film, called Madame X, where she revealed she spoke to Britney earlier that same day.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the singer said she was 'just checking in on her, and congratulating her on her marriage. Or her pending marriage.'

'I love her,' she added after.

Britney and Madonna collaborated on their song Me Against The Music in 2003.

Madonna Wants Florence Pugh to Be Her Material Girl in Upcoming Biopic

It seems like Madonna might have found her "Material Girl" in Florence Pugh.

On Thursday, Sept. 23, the iconic pop star spoke to the Associated Press about her upcoming biopic at the New York premiere for her new concert documentary Madame X, revealing that she's still in the early stages of planning and the cast hasn't been chosen yet.

However, it seems Madge has her eyes set on the Little Women actress, who has the perfect background for the role. Madonna shared, "She's definitely up there on the list, if she'll have me."

Though Florence is primarily known for her acting, she's also a singer, who performs under the name Flossie Rose. The 25-year-old occasionally posts covers of popular songs to her YouTube account and sang backup vocals on brother Toby Sebastian's single "Midnight."

In other words, she'd be the perfect choice to play Madonna.

After Madonna's opening at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night at the Barclays Center, Madonna wore a white wedding veil with a sexy black leather bodysuit to attend the afterparty.

Madonna’s bottom deserves an award all of its own - self-confidence is a great thing

It’s awards season, and if there’s one winner that should - nay, must - be declared, tout suite, it is ... Madonna’s posterior.

That’s right; the pop legend took to the runway at MTV’s Video Music Awards ceremony last night and knocked it right out of the park in a suitably cheeky, achingly Madonna way: in a floor-length trench coat, police officer-style hat and matching, high-cut bodysuit with short, puffed sleeves (PVC, obviously), to the strains of her 80s hit Vogue.

Opening the show, she purred: “And they said we wouldn’t last. But we’re still here, motherf******. Happy 40th, MTV! Welcome to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.”

As part of her grand finale, she turned around to sashay back down the catwalk, giving us all a glimpse of her derrière – and she looked fabulous.

Credit should always be given where it is due, and I can’t think of a more glittering, praise-worthy, more bad-ass sentiment than Madonna, at 63, proving that the adage of, “age is just a number” is entirely, eye-wateringly true.

Just look at the way she retaliated to social media speculation in 2019 over whether her marvellous, shapely behind had been surgically enhanced, as reported here: “Desperately Seeking No Ones Approval,” she wrote next to a photo of herself. “And Entitled to Free Agency Over My Body Like Everyone Else!!” Right on, Madge, right on.

And Madonna isn’t alone in sticking two fingers up at the patriarchy - which has long told women that after the landmark of 30, they should abide by some kind of upside-down Victorian maxim of being “heard but not seen” - either. Just take a look at another showstopper of this year’s awards season: Joan Collins.

At 88, not only is she the “new face” of celebrity make-up brand Charlotte Tilbury, but she gave a stunning performance at last week’s NTAs, when she took to the stage to present the gong for best serial drama. Dazzling in a floor-length, puff-sleeved peplum gown, Collins stepped out to the tune of Tina Turner’s Simply the Best and received a standing ovation from the crowd. She then made a cheeky quip about the response, saying that she hoped that it might mean she gets given another series. Bravo, Queen Joan, bravo.

Then, there’s J Lo. Ah, J Lo - I swoon when I look at her, I really do. At 52, she’s still making us all gasp; notably at events such as the Venice Film Festival, last week, when she donned a white, figure-hugging, fishtail dress; leaving her old-new beau Ben Affleck completely in the shade.

But it’s not all superficial simpering, of course - the thing about Maddona, Joan Collins, J Lo, Dolly Parton, Helen Mirren (to name but a few) is that they don’t appear to give a damn about ageing, or age-related expectations. The reason we are smitten with these gorgeous, strong, iconic women isn’t, in fact, anything to do with the way they look, but for their confidence.

Anyone can dress to impress (especially when TV cameras are involved), but few do it so well and completely own it – which really means owning themselves. It’s a rare skill, to inhabit your body and your skin so thoroughly, so genuinely and so completely. It’s the kind of self-assuredness and self-awareness that comes from a life lived well and lived vibrantly – and it’s something that can only truly be gleaned through years of experience.

The most recent crop of Love Islanders were gorgeous, young, bubbly girls - but there’s a subtle difference between them and the kind of women who take our breath away, and continue to take our breath away for decades.

When I grow up, I want to be Madonna’s bottom - or rather I want to be the type of woman to whom a bottom like that belongs; the type of woman who sashays simply because she can, who doesn’t give a monkey’s about what women “should” or “shouldn’t” do; who ignores the shocked stares and gasps and whispers of, “at her age!”

When I’m 63, I hope I am even half the bottom that Madonna’s bottom is. Then I could live happily ever after – with that joie de vivre, we could all live happily ever after.

Madonna dons trench-coat to shoot MTV-VMAs promo in NYC

Seven-time Grammy winner Madonna donned a classic trench coat and sky-high Louboutin heels to shoot a promo in Manhattan's Times Square on Tuesday morning at 3am EST.

The 63-year-old Queen of Pop's three-hour shoot was for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, which air September 12 - according to TMZ.

Madonna wore several necklaces and rings, fishnet gloves, fishnet stockings, and clutched a pair of cat-eye sunglasses selected by stylist Arianne Phillips.

The self-made superstar - who's won 20 Moon Man trophies - also rocked a shoulder-length lace-front platinum-blonde wig coiffed by hairstylist Andy Lecompte.

Madonna was filmed exiting an eighties retro taxi cab, throwing cash at the driver, and strutting around the streets as it rained on and off.

Madonna - who boasts 44.2M social media followers - flaunted her cleavage in the cut-out bra she wore beneath the trench coat via Instastory.
