Madonna cancels Boston shows amid 'overwhelming pain'

Live Nation is sorry to confirm that Madonna’s Madame X concerts previously scheduled for November 30th, December 1st and 2nd at The Boch Center Wang Theatre are cancelled due to doctor’s orders. We sincerely regret the disappointment to Madonna's Boston fans.

'Please forgive this unexpected turn of events. Doing my show every night brings me so much joy and to cancel is a kind of punishment for me but the pain I’m in right now is overwhelming and I must rest and follow doctor’s orders so I can come back stronger and better and continue the Madame ❌ journey with all of you.'

The Madame X Tour is scheduled to resume on December 7 with three shows at The Met in Philadelphia and then head to Miami at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theatre with seven shows starting on December 14. There are no other changes to the remaining 2019 shows in the U.S. at this time.

As we are unable to reschedule the Boston dates due to the tight scheduling through the balance of the year, refunds will be automatically issued to the credit card on which they were ordered.

‘Madame X’ Is Madonna At Her Absolute Best At Final L.A. Show

It's a Monday night and about an hour before I am ready to leave to go see the final night of Madonna's takeover of the Wiltern for her "Madame X" show I get a text from her publicity firm telling me the show is running late due to technical issues and not to arrive at the venue until 11.

Of course the late starts have become a very public issue for an otherwise very private show, where no phones are allowed and you are transported into her incredibly elaborate and unique world. Someone even attempted to sue her for the late starts.

She addressed that during a speech on the theme of the show, "Artists are here to disturb the peace," quoted from, as she put it, "The great James Baldwin." In the speech, as she talks with the audience about fighting for freedom she warns them you won't always be popular, you won't always have the most Instagram followers and you won't always be on time because being a freedom fighter takes time.

"Madame X" is Madonna at her best, unapologetic, uncompromising, unyielding and in complete control. She isn't going to apologize for not finishing until 1:30 on a Monday night. And hell I saw Prince many times where he didn't even take the stage until two. Rock stars, or in the case of Prince and Madonna, pop stars with rock star swagger, adhere to their own rules. And that's what makes them special and why we love them. It is the attitude and their ability to express and do the things we wish we could but often aren't allowed to.

Madonna can start a show after 11 on a Monday. For most people you can't just say, "F**k it," as she does in the show, "I'll start work when I want." This said if you are going to keep people out until two on a Monday night you better have the show to back it up.

"Madame X" is a revelation. It is, in its own way, as revolutionary in live performing as Vegas residencies were when everyone like Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow and others started doing those years ago. "Madame X" feels like a play thanks in large part to the incredible projections that act as another character. It is performance art, and brilliant performance art with a message.

Katy Perry kisses Madonna’s ring at Madame X concert

Katy Perry attended one of Madonna’s critically-acclaimed Madame X shows last night and kissed the queen of pop’s ring in tribute. We’d have done the same, to be honest.

In a video posted to Madonna’s Instagram account, Katy is seen having the time of her life at the show in LA’s Wiltern Theatre. Then, Madonna is seen approaching Katy and asking ‘is this an empty seat right here? Do you mind if I sit there? As you can see I do need to sit down.’ The two then reminisced about their relationship and ‘knowing each other’, with Katy, 35, reminding Madge, 61: ‘I’ve put my heel on you before.’ ‘I think I sucked on your heel,’ replied Madonna. Always the provocateur - hope she never changes.

After Madonna asks to swig some of Katy’s beer, Katy - who recently released new single Harleys in Hawaii - then quipped ‘we probably have all the same STDs.’

Katy has cited Madonna as having an influence on her career.Afterwards, Katy paid tribute to her hero, saying: ‘You are the queen,’ before kissing the two rings on her left hand and praising her support of women, to cheers from the audience. All in all, a pretty heartwarming moment. Despite the STD chat.

Madonna of course released her 14th studio album Madame X earlier this year. It reached number one on the US albums chart and number two in the UK. She has sold over 300 million records worldwide. She’ll bring her Madame X tour - comprised of 90 shows around the globe - to London in January, where she will play a residence at the London Palladium. The set list includes 25 songs old and new. We can’t wait.

A Night at Madame X’s Theatre: LA Fan Review

Madonna performed the third of her 10-night “Madame X Tour” residency at the beautiful Art Deco Wiltern Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 16, and the Queen of Pop, of course, came to impress.

She impressed me with her promptness: The show started without incident only 25 minutes after the updated 10:30 p.m. show time. Guy Oseary was in the house, back on the road with M - and keeping her on time? - after traveling with U2 to New Zealand, where he also visited mosques in Christchurch and overall showed up for “our Muslim brothers and sisters.” (Also at the Nov. 16 show? CAA honcho Bryan Lourd with his restaurateur-husband Bruce Bozzi, who snagged the Polaroid Madonna takes on stage for a cool two grand, which she noted would go to support Raising Malawi; director Peter Berg; and SNL alumna Vanessa Bayer.)

She impressed me with her ability to translate her stadiums-and-arenas thing back to smaller-scale venues such as theatres, where she started in 1985 with “The Virgin Tour.” She may be underplaying it, but Madonna is still packing houses wherever she goes and speaking her mind through powerful shows. The Madame X setlist we all know by now remains unchanged; none of the numbers she teased in the lead-up to the tour was included this evening, which began with “God Control,” the sounds of those bullets rallying the audience to their feet and, in spirit, to stand up, yet again…only two days after the Saugus High School shooting in nearby Santa Clarita, for gun reform across the United States of America. “I Rise” provided the perfect bookend to that message, which Madonna let speak for itself throughout the show. (Political commentary was kept at a minimum; there really isn’t anything to add to a song like “American Life,” is there? The audience brought up Donald Trump when she made a joke about small dicks, although she did note that she did move away, to Portugal, shortly after “D.T.” got elected, mostly “to become a soccer mom," but still. The girl has follow-through, no?)

Now…sure, the show is obviously much more contained, but it is no less grand. The staging is primitive; it would be basic to say it’s “basic,” and, in any case, so is Madonna, and so are her crew and her audience. Primitives…there to connect. Elements on stage moved and adapted to impress as well, seamlessly evoking the winds of “Dark Ballet” with M on top of a piano or becoming the fado club of the Queen’s and our dreams.

It’s a bit difficult to write about a show that’s meant to be appreciated right then and there (primitively!), you know. By partnering with Yondr, a company that makes sealable bags for cell phones, Madonna has exercised the ultimate control on the modern fan. And you’ll love it. No pics, no vids?! Did it even really happen? It did. I count myself lucky to be among the few who will have had the privilege of being in the presence of Madame X (and I got the T-shirt to show for it, OK).

She impressed me - much like she did 15 years ago when I saw her perform live in concert for the first time in Fort Lauderdale on my first of three “Re-Invention Tour” shows - with her commitment to dance and sing (in English and in Portuguese, ’cause she can), get up, and do her thing, always and forever boldly in her own terms, fuck the naysayers and the haters.

If you have a problem with how old Madonna is, what she looks like, what she sounds like; what she says; what she wears; what she does, what she doesn’t do - well…that’s your problem. Don’t hang your shit on her. She remains someone to admire, and to thank for making life for queer people, for HIV/AIDS patients, for anyone who connects to her lyrics and/or to her most steadfast of messages (to express oneself), that much easier. She does. To deny it is a fool’s errand. She did that. She’s still doing that. And she ain’t gonna stop.

This show is a journey into a moment that demands your attention but also treats you to the thrill of a lifetime, as well as the in situ live representation of Madonna’s journey. Her daughters are part of the show. Her insatiable thirst for knowledge, for experiences that will elevate not only her artistry but others, too (do sing “Hallelujah” with the Orquestra Batukadeiras when they join Madonna for “Batuka” and more), led to this moment. Enjoy it for what it is. I did. And I did loved it.

Madonna's Rarely-Seen Sister Melanie Spotted Amid Madame X Tour

Madonna's rarely-seen sister Melanie was recently spotted in a clip shared to the singer's Instagram account, as the siblings joined together for a group prayer, amid Madonna's Madame X Tour. In the clip, Madonna and her team are preparing for a show, and they've all gotten together for a pre-show warm-up and prayer. Madonna introduces Melanie, saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm so happy to have in this room right now, in this sprayer circle, and in this audience tonight... my sister Melanie."

Madonna also introduced Joe Henry, who is Melanie's "incredibly talented, wonderful, lovely" husband who is an "amazing singer, songwriter, artist, producer, human being." The singer went on to reveal that she has "written a lot of amazing songs with" Joe.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Michelle Visage will channel inner Madonna with Vogue-ing at Blackpool

Michelle Visage might have landed in the bottom two in last weekend’s Strictly - but she’s about to give everyone life.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race star is known for being the biggest Madonna fan out there, and now she’s giving us what we’ve all been waiting for - and performing a routine to Vogue. In Blackpool Tower Ballroom no less! We aren’t worthy.

Dancing a Couple’s Choice with Giovanni Pernice, the pair are out to prove that they’re worthy of remaining in the competition after a shock vote saw them land in the bottom against Mike Bushell.

The feisty pair are not going down without a fight, and as they reach the iconic Blackpool spot in the competition, Michelle and Giovanni are going to bring the house down. After all, Vogueing and Ballrooms are staples of drag culture – so you know it’s going to be fierce as hell.

Madonna Adds 49th No. 1 on Dance Club Songs Chart With Swae Lee Collab 'Crave'

Madonna earns her record-extending 49th No. 1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart, as "Crave," with Swae Lee, ascends 2-1 on the Nov. 16-dated list.

The chart, and all rankings dated Nov. 16, will refresh on Billboard.com Tuesday, Nov. 12.

"Crave," which marks Lee's first No. 1 on the ranking, was remixed for clubs by Tracy Young, Benny Benassi and DJLW, among a host of others.

With 49 toppers on Dance Club Songs, which measures reports submitted by a national sample of club DJs and which launched as a national survey in the Billboard issue dated Aug. 28, 1976, Madonna outpaces runner-up Rihanna (33 No. 1s), while Beyoncé and Janet Jackson follow with 22 and 20, respectively.

"Crave" is Madonna's third leader, all this year, from her album Madame X, following "Medellín," with Maluma (June 29), and "I Rise" (Aug. 31). Madonna adds her ninth No. 1 this decade and has earned three each from her last three studio albums, with each triple tallied in a single year. Madonna also scored three No. 1s each from 2015's Rebel Heart ("Living for Love," "Ghosttown" and "B**** I'm Madonna," featuring Nicki Minaj) and 2012's MDNA ("Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., "Girl Gone Wild" and "Turn Up the Radio").

"Crave" additionally marks Madonna's ninth consecutive Dance Club Songs No. 1, her longest such streak. (Katy Perry holds the record with 18 straight No. 1s in 2009-17.) Twice before, Madonna managed seven straight No. 1s, first with "Causing a Commotion," from the Who's That Girl soundtrack (1987), through "Justify My Love," from her first greatest hits set, The Immaculate Collection (1991), and then with Ray of Light's "Nothing Really Matters" (1999) through Music's "Impressive Instant" (2001). Madonna's current run began with "Luvin' " in 2012.

Madonna sued by fans for being hours late to her concert

Fans of Madonna are suing the 'Material Girl' over the increasingly late start times for her Madame X Tour, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

Both Madonna and events promoter Live Nation were named in a class-action lawsuit filed by Nate Hollander after the Florida ticketholder claimed he lost money when the pop icon pushed back the start time of her concerts from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The lawsuit alleges Madonna has had issues with punctuality during her current ongoing tour, routinely making concertgoers wait two hours longer initially scheduled.

Hollander claims he had bought three tickets for $1,024.95 in August for Madonna’s Dec. 17 concert in Miami Beach, which at the time of purchase was slated to start at 8:30 p.m., TMZ reported.

The lawsuit maintains that Hollander’s tickets lost considerable value after the singer delayed the start time of her remaining shows by two hours. Hollander said he'd purchased three tickets for the Tuesday night show, but was denied a refund after she switched her start times to 10:30 p.m.

Hollander, who has since assembled a group of similarly angry Madonna fans for his class-action suit, claimed the start time was too late because most concertgoers have work early the next day, TMZ reports.

Meanwhile, entertainment news website Wonderwall reports that more than 500 refunds were issued following Madonna’s scheduled 10:30 p.m. Thursday night show at the Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. She did not come onto the stage until after midnight, and the concert did not end until close to 3 a.m., according to the entertainment news outlet.

The class-action lawsuit is pursuing the 'Like a Virgin' singer for damages.

Antonio Banderas Says He Had 'No Idea' Madonna Was Pursuing Him in the '90s

Before they costarred in the 1996 film Evita, Madonna had a major crush on Antonio Banderas - and he had no clue.

The actor, 59, spoke about the pop singer’s crush on him during an interview on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show on Friday while promoting his Pedro Almodovar film Pain and Glory.

'A lot of people in America actually became aware of you when Madonna did her Truth or Dare documentary where she spent a great deal of the movie obsessing over you and how you wouldn’t call her back,' Jess Cagle told Banderas.

The actor nodded and said, 'I had no idea. She called me, and I was finishing the Mambo Kings here in Los Angeles and she called me. I thought someone was playing a joke on me because I picked up the phone and it was Madonna, I couldn’t believe it.'

'She said, ‘Listen, I want to show you this documentary that you’re in.’ I said, ‘What documentary? What’re you talking about?'' Banderas recalled.

The actor said the 'Material Girl' singer offered him the chance to remove the scenes he was in if he was uncomfortable, but ultimately, he was fine with it.

The documentary was released in 1991 and chronicled Madonna’s controversial 1990 'Blond Ambition' international tour, including behind-the-scenes footage of her tour and life.

In one scene, Madonna explains whom Banderas was to an American audience who wasn’t familiar with him at the time.

'Antonio Banderas is this Spanish actor that I’ve had a crush on for two years,' Madonna said in the documentary. 'I’ve seen every movie that Antonio has ever done. I have to say he’s one of the few actors that I was dying to meet.'

When the singer traveled to Madrid to visit Almodovar, one of Banderas’ frequent collaborators, she became visibly excited at the prospect of meeting the actor at a party held in her honor.

'I spent the whole week psyching myself up for this party that I’m going to and I have it all worked out in my head: I’m going to make Antiono fall madly in love with me,' she said. 'Although there’s this one major obstacle that I never really counted on: his wife.'

Banderas was married to Spanish actress Ana Leza at the time. The two divorced in 1996, and that same year he married actress Melanie Griffith after they starred in the comedy Two Much.

The actor and Madonna would eventually work together in the 1996 film Evita, in which Madonna portrayed the first lady of Argentina and Banderas played the revolutionary Che Guevara.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly‘s Couch Surfing in 2018, Banderas spoke about what it was like working with Madonna on the film.

'Madonna is probably one of the most committed artists I’ve ever worked with,' he said. 'She was totally into this character, it was great working with her.'
