Madonna: Getting high isn't for me

Madonna has told how she never got into drugs - because they 'destroyed' her for 'days and days'.

The singer said that although she tried various substances, she didn't feel happy taking them because she wanted to look after her body.

The star, 56, told Mojo magazine: 'My problem is I don't have the stamina to take drugs. I feel terrible afterwards. I'm destroyed for days and days. I can't do anything and I don't want that inconvenience in my life. So I don't feel it's worth the price you have to pay,' she said.

'Even when I was younger and in my 20s, trying this and that....I mean, I never really did that many drugs,' she told the mag.

'I'm too big of a p***y. Also, I'm a dancer and I don't want to destroy my body. I want to feel physically good. So it never came naturally to me to get out of my brains or get so high that I couldn't get out of bed for three days. And that's what happened to me if I did anything.'

Madonna misses her daughter

Madonna felt like she losing her arm when her eldest daughter started university.

The 56-year-old singer admits she found it very difficult when Lourdes Leon, 18, moved out of their New York City home to attend the University of Michigan last year.

The 'Living For Love' hitmaker said: 'It's hard letting them go out into the world but when she left home to go to college I was a mess. It was really hard letting her go.'

The star, who also has son Rocco, 14, and adopted children David and Mercy, both nine, is glad that the teenager is attending her alma-mater, but still misses her.

She told Australia's 'Today Show': 'I've come to terms with it, but yes I miss her and she's a part of me, it was like losing my arm.'

Lourdes, whose father is personal trainer Carlos Leon, is pursuing a bachelor's degree of fine arts in drama and theatre, and is taking classes in a range of art forms and creative practices, from animation to traditional acting skills.

Her famous mother attended the same university in the 1970s, but dropped out before receiving her degree to pursue a career in music.

Liz Smith: 'Living for Love' video shot in Brooklyn

Speaking of music, I called my friend Liz Rosenberg, who has long repped the likes of Stevie Nicks, Cher, Michael Buble and but of course, Madonna. So, what will The Big M sing on the upcoming Grammy telecast?

Liz could not reveal, but she did say: 'Madonna just shot a video for the first single from her ‘Rebel Heart’ album. It’s 'Living for Love' and we did it in Brooklyn. Lots of gorgeous men and incredible dancing and she looked very sexy. But I think the most important thing was how much fun she was having!' (Liz R. and I agree that Madonna needs more fun. Really. The woman never relaxes!)

'Living for Love' will be released February 12th. The album lands in March.

MOJO magazine hits London stores early!

The Madonna edition of MOJO magazine has hit London newsstands early. It has been spotted in WHSmiths and many local newsagents. It will reach the rest of the UK by Tuesday.

The magazine features another new picture inside and a 13-page article and interview with Madonna. A free CD on the cover includes 14 tracks from Madonna's New York scene.

Mike Tyson Discusses 'Intense' Madonna Collaboration

As revealed earlier this week when Madonna unveiled the track list to Rebel Heart, the pop superstar's upcoming studio album will feature an appearance from boxing legend Mike Tyson, who appears on the song 'Iconic' alongside Madge and Chance The Rapper. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Tyson discusses how the collaboration was put in motion, and also decides to praise Italian Prime Minister/fascist icon Benito Mussolini's 'mesmerizing' oratory skills.

Tyson says that 'Iconic,' which features the boxer as a hype man of sorts, came together after Madonna reached out to him for the appearance. 'Madonna calls you and tells you to come somewhere, you go,' Tyson said. 'I didn't know what the hell I was going there for. I'm just there having a good time and hanging out with Madonna. She has her producer there and I go into the studio and I didn't know if she wanted me to talk or rap. I just go in there and start talking. I'm talking about my life and things that I have endured. I'm saying some really crazy stuff. It was really intense.'

Apparently, Tyson and Madonna are old friends - the champ says that he and Madonna met on a double date in 1988 with Madonna's then-husband Sean Penn and Tyson's then-wife Robin Givens, and the quartet took in a Pee-wee Herman movie. While Tyson describes Madonna as an 'awesome, serene person,' but also dishes out some kind words to Mussolini, who inspired his ad-libbed moment on 'Iconic.'

'When I did it, I think about being some guy like [Benito] Mussolini and they're really arrogant, but you try to come from a positive perspective and be uplifting,' said Tyson. 'You watch Mussolini on television - even though we don't understand what he's saying - he is so mesmerizing. I look at myself in that way. I know people may say 'this guy's a fascist' and all this stuff, but man, you can take positivity from watching him. No wonder why Hitler was attracted to him. This guy's a hypnotic figure. There's so much pride behind what he's saying. I'm not even Italian and I feel the pride he's projecting. He had that street swag; he was doing this stuff with his hands and moving his head before it was even hip-hop.'

So, again, Tyson said that Benito Mussolini had 'street swag.' Happy Friday, I guess?

Israeli man under house arrest for leaked Madonna songs

An aspiring singer who auditioned for Israel's top TV song competition was placed under house arrest Thursday on suspicion of hacking into international pop star Madonna's computer and stealing and selling unreleased songs, his lawyer said.

Police said Israel's cybercrime unit arrested 38-year-old Adi Lederman on Wednesday after an investigation coordinated with the FBI, which confirmed its involvement. Police also accused Lederman of stealing songs from other international artists whom they declined to name.

Songs from Madonna's upcoming album 'Rebel Heart,' to be released in March, were leaked online in December. At the time, she urged her fans not to listen to the stolen copies that had surfaced, writing on Instagram: 'I have been violated as a human and an artist.' She later released six songs, calling it an 'early Christmas gift' for fans.

Madonna welcomed Lederman's initial arrest, writing on her Facebook page that she was 'profoundly grateful to the FBI, the Israeli Police investigators and anyone else who helped lead to the arrest of this hacker.' She called the hack 'deeply devastating.'

Madonna has long claimed a special bond with Israel. The diva has made personal pilgrimages to the country, she practices Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism, and she launched her 2012 'MDNA' tour in Israel.

The investigation began after Madonna's representative in Israel lodged a complaint, a police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with protocol.

Lederman, a Tel Aviv resident, auditioned for the Israeli reality show 'A Star is Born' in 2012.

When asked by one of the judges what he does for a living, he responded: 'Mainly wasting my life away, it seems, because I'm told that I should be on stage.' He sang Stevie Wonder's 'Don't You Worry About a Thing.'

Efrat Nahmany-Bar, a lawyer for Lederman said he denies the allegations. She said Lederman has not been charged and believes there was not sufficient evidence for an indictment. She said Lederman has no access to computers under the terms of his house arrest.

Madonna: World Exclusive Interview In Latest MOJO!

MOJO magazine have revealed the newsstand cover of the March 2015 edition and preview the world exclusive interview with Madonna:

In the latest issue of MOJO magazine, available in the UK and online from Tuesday, January 27, Madonna speaks candidly about the musical choices and lyrical confessions that have driven her from Michigan misfit to global superstar via the musical melting pot of New York in the late-’70s/early-’80s.

'All my friends were DJs so I wanted my records to sound like what I wanted to dance to,' says Madonna of her musical baby steps. 'I would go to clubs and I would listen to what would make me dance. And then I would go back and I would work on my music. I mean, I was influenced by Debbie Harry, Talking Heads, The B-52’s. So to me the line was very blurred between what I was working on and what I was dancing to.'

Madonna also holds forth about drugs, religion, free music in the digital age – her position very different from that of recent MOJO cover stars U2 with whom she shares manager Guy Oseary - and her latest studio album, her 13th, entitled Rebel Heart. But again and again she returns to her passion for music and its atavistic power.

'Just the feeling of the tribal, the community,' she tells MOJO’s Tom Doyle. 'Y’know, people coming together in a room. That bass booming, people dancing, moving in unison. There’s something really primal about it and inexplicable. I think it’s in our nature to want to do that. To want to join together and move to a beat.'

It’s the first time Madonna has been on the cover of MOJO magazine, an occasion prompting two editions: a news-stand version and a Special Subscribers’ Issue with exclusive artwork overseen by Madonna herself.

Madonna's statement on arrest of hacker

Madonna posted this statement on her facebook page following on from the arrest of the hacker earlier this week:

'I am profoundly grateful to the FBI, the Israeli Police investigators and anyone else who helped lead to the arrest of this hacker. I deeply appreciate my fans who have provided us with pertinent information and continue to do so regarding leaks of my music. Like any citizen, I have the right to privacy. This invasion into my life - creatively, professionally, and personally remains a deeply devastating and hurtful experience, as it must be for all artists who are victims of this type of crime.'

'The end of Privacy is not something any of us are ready for! #livingforlove'

Madonna Reveals How Kanye West 'Pushes The Envelope'

Madonna has opened up for the first time about her expansive career in the music industry as she reveals all in the latest issue of MOJO magazine.

Her 13th album, 'Rebel Heart', features a number of collaborators including Kanye West, who Madge had only kind words to speak of.

'I like that he likes to push the envelope.' Madonna told MOJO. 'He hears music in a different and unique way.'

She went on to add: 'I think Diplo’s the same. I like people who think outside the box ‘cos they take a song I’ve written that’s quite straightforward and pop and deconstruct it. Rip it apart and turn it into something else.'

As for how she started making her own music and who she was inspired by, it's all down to her love of dancing.

'All my friends were DJs so I wanted my records to sound like what I wanted to dance to,' Madonna told MOJO.

'I would go to clubs and I would listen to what would make me dance. And then I would go back and I would work on my music,' she said.

'I mean, I was influenced by Debbie Harry, Talking Heads, The B-52’s. So to me the line was very blurred between what I was working on and what I was dancing to.'

MOJO is on sale in the UK and online from Tuesday 27 January.

Israeli man arrested over Madonna hack

An Israeli man has been arrested on suspicion of hacking into the computers of pop stars including Madonna and selling unreleased songs online.

Israeli police said the man was suspected of stealing work from several unnamed international stars.

A private investigator connected to the case confirmed Madonna was among them.

The pop star rush-released a number of new songs last month after demos and unfinished mixes from her new album Rebel Heart made their way online.

Madonna called the leak 'a form of terrorism.'

Her manager Guy Oseary said the 'devastating' action had prompted the surprise release of six songs from Rebel Heart in December, months earlier than planned.

Asher Wizman, the owner of a private investigation firm in Israel, told the Reuters news agency he was contacted by Madonna's team several weeks ago after rumours of an Israeli connection to the leak.

'Our investigator found her computers, at home and at a studio, were broken into from a computer in Israel,' he told Reuters.

'We tracked down the computer, and the man behind it. After gathering enough evidence, we turned to the police and he was arrested today.'

Police did not immediately name the 39-year-old man, although local reports identified him as a former contestant on one of Israel's TV talent shows.

'He is suspected of computer hacking, copyright violation and fraudulent receipt of goods,' a police spokesman said.

'During the investigation it appeared the suspect had broken into the computers of a number of international artists, stole unreleased demos and final tracks and sold them over the internet.'

The arrest in Israel comes a day after Bjork was forced to release her new album Vulnicura two months ahead of schedule after it leaked over the weekend.

Madonna set to perform at Brits?

Madonna is apparently on the bill for this year's Brit Awards.

The Queen of Pop is '99 per cent confirmed' to take to the stage to perform at the event in February, reported the Daily Mirror.

A source said the Girl Gone Wild singer has 'cleared her diary' for the ceremony, which she last performed at in 1995.

'Madonna wants to perform to the biggest number of people for the maximum impact and there's no better place for a controversy-filled Madonna performance than the Brits,' said the insider.

'She has already confirmed she will perform at the Grammys, when she will debut the new music. But her album is due out on March 9, a month after the LA ceremony, so she wants another large platform to perform her songs on just before it is released.'

It's thought Madonna, 56, will perform tracks from her new album Rebel Heart at the Brits, which will take place on February 25 at the O2 Arena in London.

However, a spokeswoman for the star said it was 'just speculative' at this stage.

Before the Brits, Madonna will be on stage at the Grammys at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on February 8.

Madonna to perform at the Grammy Awards

Madonna, AC/DC and Ariana Grande are among the first performers announced to take the stage at the Grammy Awards next month.

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and country star Eric Church will also perform at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 8, The Recording Academy announced Tuesday.

Grande, who is nominated for two awards, will make her Grammy debut. Church is nominated for four honors, while Sheeran has three, including album of the year for 'x.'

Beyonce, Sam Smith and Pharrell are the leaders in nominations with six apiece. The three pop stars, along with Sheeran, will compete with Beck for album of the year.

The 57th annual Grammy Awards will air live on CBS.

How Madonna Turned 'Rebel Heart' Leak Into a Global Hit

On Dec. 16, Madonna was in her New York apartment when she received word that more than a dozen unfinished demos for her forthcoming album had leaked. Her manager, Guy Oseary, was just returning to his Beverly Hills estate when he got the news. The album, Rebel Heart, was set for a late-April release, and thanks to a meticulous marketing plan and an inspired group of collaborators (including Diplo, Kanye West and Avicii), buzz was strong on the singer's 13th studio full-length.

But now, all bets were off. Madonna shot off a fiery post on her Instagram account lambasting the leak as 'artistic rape,' Oseary got on the phone, and both sprung into action. 'I don't recall that phone coming off my ear from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m.,' he says.

High-profile leaks and other security breaches have been a scourge of the entertainment industry for the past 15 years: from Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in 2001 and Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III in 2007 to Madonna's own 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' in 2011 - which resulted in an unidentified fan's arrest in Spain, although he was later released - not to mention the hacker group Anonymous' threats to rapper Iggy Azalea in 2014's final weeks. But this Madonna leak was unusually severe, including images and videos as well as music. However, the singer and her team's quick response may have set a new precedent for how the industry can mobilize in an effort to combat them.

On the morning of Dec. 17, Steve Berman, vice chairman of Madonna's label distributor Interscope, was on the phone with her and Oseary. 'She was in a very angry, upset, emotional place,' Berman recalls. He had visited her in New York the week prior to hear some of the album's first finished songs with label president/CEO John Janick. 'She told me, 'Steve, I care about my music. I can't have the songs being heard the wrong way.''

Berman was confident that Apple's iTunes could be engaged to turn around an official release of finished Rebel Heart tracks on a dime, even though the digital retailer's servers would effectively shut down for the year on Dec. 19, just two days later. But he faced two major hurdles: pushback from the upper rafters at Universal Music Group ('Should we just wait and do it all at the top of the year?' was the response from one executive) and the availability of iTunes vp content Robert Kondrk, who was already on vacation with his family in Mexico.

During the next 48 hours, Kondrk was able to help Apple greenlight a Rebel Heart preorder that would include six instant-gratification songs for download by midnight ET on Dec. 20 - including 'Living for Love,' the set's first single, which was initially intended for a Valentine's Day release (and will now be promoted to radio on Feb. 10). However, Madonna had to make sure the six songs were in finished form, so she holed up in her New York studio working on the final mixes into the wee hours of the morning of Dec. 18. 'There was no time to call any of the producers - nothing,' says Oseary. 'Just her final mastering sessions.'

The result of Rebel Heart's 48-hour turnaround? The album preorder topped the iTunes charts in more than 40 countries - including the United States, where three of the six released tracks entered Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart dated Jan. 3, despite just two days of eligibility. To date, the six tracks have sold a combined 131,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Music, with preorders for Rebel Heart at a robust (considering the situation) 50,000 to 60,000, according to industry estimates. 'We know that in today's world, having a top 10 album with no promotion is really hard,' Oseary says. 'It's pretty....exciting isn't the right word, but it's rewarding to see it so well-received.'

Still, Madonna's work is far from over. There's still at least one more preview track from Rebel Heart on its way before the album's March 10 release (likely due Feb. 8, the night of the Grammy Awards, Oseary says), and an official video for 'Living for Love,' to be filmed in late January. Plus, there's an ongoing investigation into the source of the leaks (another 14 tracks hit the Internet on Dec. 24), which, given their volume, seem too far-reaching to emanate from a usual suspect like a studio staffer or a backing musician. Neither Oseary nor a UMG representative would confirm that the investigation has resulted in a police report. Oseary's only comment on the matter was, 'We are working really hard to solve this crime.'

Madonna's Instagram: 'Je Suis Charlie'

Madonna has joined those supporting Je Suis Charlie (I am Charlie) after terrorists targeted the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris this week:

'These are very scary times we are living in. Ignorance breeds Intolerance and fear. We can only fight darkness with light! We are all Charlie! #revolutionoflove #rebelhearts'

'We must respect AlL religions! But we must also RESPECT human life!! Killing in the name of G*D is man's idea not G*D's!!!!#livingforlove #rebelheart'

Zendaya: 'Madonna Knows Who I Am, That's All I Need!'

Zendaya is unapologetic when it comes making bold style choices. So it’s no surprise Madonna (no stranger to major style moments herself) tapped the 18-year-old star as the latest face of her Material Girl junior’s line, which she founded with her daughter Lourdes. Zendaya stars in her second campaign for the label, and we have an exclusive first look below!

Shot at the famed Bleecker Street Records store in N.Y.C., the singer/actress danced on set to hits by Madonna and Michael Jackson while wearing new pieces from the spring collection - named 'Record Riot' - including apparel from the brand’s new Active line.

'I am very excited to be working with Madonna and Lola again and continuing to work with them for another season - it has been fantastic so far,' she said. 'I think Madonna is one of the biggest influencers the world has every seen, in fashion. She created a style. If anyone were to do that nowadays, it’s like ‘No, that’s Madonna.''

As for the fashion icon herself, Madonna hand-picked the young star for her always-evolving style and ability to take risks in the name of fashion. 'Zendaya personifies the Material Girl - she loves to have fun and is constantly experimenting with trends,' Madonna and Lola said in a statement. 'Her daring personal style and high energy made her the perfect face for our new collection.'

But then again, who wouldn’t want to work with Madonna? Zendaya is beyond elated to continue her role with the icon.

'First of all Madonna knows who I am, check. Bucket list, I’m over. That’s all I need,' she said. 'When Madonna Instagrammed a picture of me I think I died, came back to life again, then I had a party, and then I died again, came back again, went to heaven, said hello to everybody, came back down and here I am. It was crazy, it was awesome.'

LIZ SMITH: A 'Rebel' Criticized and Constrained

Madonna found herself embroiled in yet another controversy. The cover of her upcoming album, 'Rebel Heart,' which was hacked and released in demo form - forcing Madonna to put out six of the completed songs months in advance - shows The Big M with twine binding her face, emphasizing her view of herself as a 'rebel' who has been constricted and disparaged. (She achieved this point more compellingly in her famous 'Human Nature' video, some years ago.)

Fans of the lady then made up their own 'rebel art' sending her photos of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela with ropes across their faces. Madonna put these efforts online and immediately found herself accused of being 'racist' and, of course, an egomaniac, daring to compare herself to King and Mandela.

Madonna is many things, but a racist she is most assuredly not. She has had African American and Latino lovers as well as adopting two African children from Malawi, David and Mercy. Children, by the way, whom she does not parade like 'accessories' as her critics insisted she would do at the time of these adoptions.

Egomaniac? Let’s say she has a healthy dose of ego, mixed with a sense of victimization. This makes her exactly like all big stars. (She is also surprisingly vulnerable - but you’d have to know her, to know that.) And in this world of not thinking before one goes to Facebook or Instagram or Twitter, Madonna is no more cautious than hundreds of other public persons and millions of just plain folks. Madonna has now had to address the fake outrage of critics, apologize for any offense, refute charges of being a racist and deny she compares herself in any way to King or Mandela.

Others whom Madonna has wrapped in twine include Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, Bob Marley and Jesus, all of whom, in Madonna’s view, fought the good fight, against the odds.

Some Madonna fans wish she’d confine her artistic expressions to the recording studio. Silly! Why should she 'confine' herself to anything? The six songs she felt forced to release, in the wake of the hack on her material, went straight to number one on iTunes in 40 countries. She managed to make lemonade out of lemons. As to the songs themselves, three of them are truly beautiful and much reminiscent of the romantic Madonna of the 1980s and '90s. ('Ghost Town' is particularly affecting.) The other three are dancy and techo-infused. Not my taste. There are six more tracks to come, in March.

I do wish Madonna would get over this business of self-reverential, self-referencing songs. One of the new ones is titled, 'Bitch, I’m Madonna!' Honey, we know you’re Madonna. Nobody is likely to forget, ever. Relax.

'I'm admiring and acknowledging their Rebel Hearts'

Madonna has been sharing fan-generated images using the Rebel Heart ribbon on the faces of other people. The internet has stirred up controversy suggesting Madonna is racist and insulting comparing herself to people including as MLK and Nelson Mandela. Madonna published these statements on her Instagram and facebook pages explaining:

'I would like to thank all my fans for recreating my album cover with the ❤️Rebel Heart ribbon on the faces of so many Great Hero's. It shows that you are also celebrating and in admiration of these great freedom fighters!
When I repost these images I am saying YES! These people are all Rebel Hearts in one way or another from Martin Luther King to Jesus to Nelson Mandela to John Lennon. YES! Lets celebrate them! The world needs more people like them.
I hope to one day accomplish. 1 100th of what these Rebel Hearts have accomplished. As I Said in a previous post 'I walk in the footsteps of Giants' and I will continue to do so G*D willing. They are my guiding light. ❤️#rebelheart ❤️#livingforlove

'I'm sorry
I'm not comparing my self to anyone
I'm admiring and acknowledging their Rebel Hearts
This is neither a crime or an insult or racist!
I also did it with Michael jaclson and frida khalo and marilyn monroe
Am I saying I am them?
NO
I'm saying they are Rebel Hearts too.
And
I didn't do it
My fans did
And I just re posted those photos
My fans aren't racist either
If they put me in the same category as these other people
Thank you. I'm very flattered and I hope one day to live up to 1 100th of what those people accomplished.'

'Again thanks to my fans for creating this beautiful ART! This is the Revolution of Love I've been talking about! RESPECT! We should all aspire to be #rebelhearts'
