Miley Grinds On Madonna, Madonna Grinds Back

Here is part of an MTV article on Madonna's appearance and Miley's reaction to their duet on MTV Unplugged:

....specifically with Madonna, who, as you've likely heard by now, had been quietly hiding in plain sight, rising from the audience in a bedazzled cowgirl uniform to join Miley on a mash-up of 'Don't Tell Me' and 'We Can't Stop.' While trading off and exchanging lyrics of both hits, Miley grinded on Madonna, Madonna grinded on Miley, they both box-stomped and turned line dancing into dirty dancing, and yet another legendary pop music moment was made.

'That was pretty f---ing cool, you guys. It was one of those days that was pretty easy to get out of bed. I get to perform with Madonna in bedazzled cowboy boots. I can't really complain about anything,' Miley effused as Madonna two-stepped off the stage. 'Well, I can't perform when I'm stoned. That's one thing to complain I guess,' Miley teased before impersonating 'Saturday Night Live''s Vanessa Bayer's cheeky impression of her, capping off the unforgettable duet by confirming it was 'pretty cool.'

Madonna to introduce Pussy Riot at Amnesty concert

Pop icon Madonna said Wednesday she will introduce to the stage two formerly jailed members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot when they appear at an Amnesty International concert in New York next week, hailing the pair as 'fellow freedom fighters.'

Maria Alyokhina, 25, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 24, will speak at the concert organized by the human rights group on February 5 during their first trip to New York since being granted amnesty in December by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

They became international were symbols of human rights campaigners after being jailed in Russia for nearly two years.

'I am honored to introduce my fellow freedom fighters Masha and Nadya from Pussy Riot. I have admired their courage and have long supported their commitment and the sacrifices they have made in the name of free of expression and human rights,' Madonna said in a statement after posting the news on her Facebook page.

Amnesty announced that the pair, who were convicted in 2012 of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred after storming Moscow's biggest cathedral and beseeching the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of Putin, would attend the concert earlier this month. A third Pussy Riot member, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was freed when a judge suspended her sentence on appeal.

American alternative rock group Imagine Dragons, the Flaming Lips and R&B singer Lauryn Hill will perform at the Bringing Human Rights Home concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The event will resume a global concert series that Nobel Peace Prize-winning Amnesty International began 25 years ago, featuring rock greats such as U2, Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Lou Reed.

Madonna & Miley Team for Country-Themed Unplugged

Madonna joined Miley Cyrus for a mash-up of 'Don't Tell Me' and 'We Can't Stop' at Cyrus' barn dance-themed 'Unplugged' show that will air on MTV tonight (Jan. 29) at 9 p.m.

Cyrus embraced her Nashville roots for the special, giving a countrified twist to "Bangerz" material such as '4 x 4,' 'Do My Thing' and '#Getitright' and covering Dolly Parton's 'Jolene.'

'We're trying to bring Nashville here and get people in the country spirit,' Cyrus said on sound stage at Sunset Gower Studios on Tuesday evening. The turnaround of the show in less than 24 hours is the fastest MTV has done in the history of the 'Unplugged' franchise.

'It's been a dream to go live globally, but with the addition of a guest (Madonna), we decided to do a quick turnaround,' MTV Networks Music and Logo Group president Van Tofler told Billboard.

He said MTV is focused on the premiere Wednesday night at 9pm and that down the road they will consider releasing a longer version and will put interview footage and extras online at MTV.com.

From Billboard.com

MTV UK confirmed to madonnalicious that the show will air in the UK on Thursday 06 February at 9pm on MTV Music.

Madonna duets with Miley Cyrus

Madonna has teamed up with the latest pretender to her throne by performing a duet with chart-topping star Miley Cyrus.

The pop duo shared a stage during a TV special on the younger singer's hits as she recorded an MTV Unplugged programme in the US.

Miley, the 21-year-old famed for her suggestive routines and twerking, played two songs with Madonna, 55, for the stripped-down session filmed in Hollywood.

They are said to have grinded and grabbed each other during their duet on Miley's We Can't Stop and Madonna's Don't Tell Me in the hour-long acoustic show.

Performing alongside Madonna has become something of a rite of passage or seal of approval for young female pop superstars, following shows in which she has collaborated with the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and MIA.

Miley's show featured a number of songs from her latest album Bangerz, including Wrecking Ball, which featured a controversial video in which she appeared naked.

The performance is being screened in the US tonight (January 29) and will be broadcast in the UK at a later date.

Liz Smith: Madonna Fights Pain, Raises Cane for Same Love

Liz Smith has given her opinion on Madonna's appearance and performance at the Grammys last weekend, and the online backlash she received over taking her son David to the awards:

'If it was anything else, I might plead my foot, but I won’t miss this. It’s too important' - it’s about love!'
That’s what Madonna told members of her inner circle who were suggesting the star’s recent injury to her foot was too painful and 'too hobbling' for her to appear at the Grammys last Sunday night.
Silly inner circle! Don’t they know by now that as soon as you tell Madonna not to do, say, or wear something, she is going to do exactly the opposite. (Alas, somebody told her not wear that silly gold grill on her teeth, so she did. At least on the red carpet.)
In any case, though Madonna looked like she was paying homage to the Amish on the way into the Grammys, she pulled it out of the fire when she went onstage. Changed into a more flattering white suit, and steadying herself on a white cane, she joined multiple Grammy-winner Macklemore, along with Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, and Queen Latifah in a splendid rendition of 'Same Love.' (M melded her classic 'Open Your Heart' with the new song. And Latifah presided over 33 weddings, both straight and gay.) Madonna was in good voice and the entire number was beautifully conceived. If you weren’t impressed or moved, your hearts of stone must weigh you down!

By now, you probably know all this. What you don’t know is how much physical discomfort Madonna was in. And perhaps many of you are not aware of the beating M took on the social media - a lot of it was shockingly racist and directed at her son, David! (David looked adorable with his mom on the red carpet in a duplicate of Madonna's black pantsuit.)
Many of these online morons don’t seem to be aware that Madonna adopted David a number of years ago. She also has an adopted daughter, Mercy. And also the two children she has given birth to. But the level of ugly vitriol on poor David is stunning.
Unfortunately, M recently lit a fire under her critics by her misguided attempt to appear as if she were getting 'down with the kids' using the N-word as a 'term of endearment' towards her older son, Rocco, fathered by Guy Ritchie. She apologized. But her appearance at the Grammys with David compelled her haters to decry it as a 'PR stunt' to prove she isn’t racist. Please. Madonna is no racist. Her crime, if we can call it that, is she doesn’t censor herself and is often caught up in maintaining an image that needs some tweaking to maturity. And, like most adults, she should get off Twitter. (Nothing but trouble there, people.)
But so much more came pouring out - especially on the Yahoo! site - and that David was the target is pretty grim.

Madonna & Macklemore’s Emotional Grammys Performance

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis certainly pulled a winner out of the bag when they brought Madonna and Queen Latifah on stage to perform as 33 hetrosexual and same sex couples got married at the 2014 Grammy awards last night, and fans have flooded Twitter with mostly complimentary thoughts on the shocker.

During a performance of their critically-acclaimed single 'Same Love' which features Mary Lambert, hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were joined on stage by Queen Latifah who officiated the marriages of 33 couples as the rest of the star-studded audience looked on. Madonna was then introduced to the stage as she sang part of her hit 'Open Your Heart' before duetting with Lambert.

It seems there wasn't a dry at the Nokia Theatre or at home as the couples tied the knot on live television, and viewers flooded Twitter with some positive reactions to the emotional ceremony.

@arianaaa2 tweeted: 'The @macklemore and @Madonna same love performance/wedding ceremony was amazing #samelove #inspiring #GRAMMYs,' while @krisily gushed: 'Ok totally worth the wait 33 couples got married at the Grammy's by Queen Latifah and Macklemore & Madonna sang at their wedding! #SameLove.' Admitting to getting a little teary, @nerdixie commented: 'I cried at the part where the couples got married. I WANT MADONNA TO SING AT MY WEDDING TOO,' while @erickstheone said: 'Never been a fan of the song, but performance was amazing. Plus, who wouldn't love Madonna at your wedding??'

During the performance, Queen Latifah said: 'This song is not a love song for some of us but for all of us. I hope this is inspiration to all the rappers out there and hip hop artists out there that they can continue to tackle any subjects you want.'

Ryan Lewis' sister also got wed during the ceremony.

Madonna styled by David and wears grills to piss people off

Madonna had a special date by her side on the Grammys red carpet: Her son David.

The duo even coordinated outfits for their mother-son outing: 'We're both working the Ralph Lauren angle,' Madonna told Ryan Seacrest on Live From the Red Carpet. Spring 2014 Collection, to be exact.

And Madonna had an equally special stylist for the event. Because it was also David!

'For this look, I followed his lead. He dressed me tonight,' the Material Girl revealed. 'He wanted me to dress like him, so I obeyed him.'

Madge accessorized the outfit with a cane (a result of a dance injury) and, of course, a grill.

'Yeah, I'm grillin'. It pisses everybody off when I wear my grill, so that's why I wear it,' she said, before explaining that she wears a grill 'when it matches my outfit. When I don't have to eat. Actually, I've learned to eat with my grill in.'

No grills for David though. 'She said she'd get me grills for this birthday,' he protested, before Madonna got all maternal and chimed in, 'I know, but we haven't had time. We have to go to the dentist to get a mold!'

Madonna Confirmed For GRAMMYs Performance

The GRAMMY Awards released what is (presumably) its final additions to its awe-inspiring lineup of performers, with Madonna at the top of that list. Madonna To Play Amnesty International Concert?

Earlier this week it was announced that the massive Amnesty International concert at Barclays Center on February 5th will feature two members of Pussy Riot, who were just released from Russian prison camps last month. The concert is a return to the Amnesty concerts of the 1980s and '90s (they stopped in 1998), and in that spirit some legendary talent has been expected to return with it - we now have it on good authority that Madonna has been confirmed to play at the show.

She also issued this call to action at the time: 'I protest the conviction and sentencing of Pussy Riot to a penal colony for two years for a 40 second performance extolling their political opinions. Even if one disagrees with the location or how they chose to express themselves, the sentence is too harsh and in fact is inhumane. I call on all those who love freedom to condemn this unjust punishment. I urge artists around the world to speak up in protest against this travesty. They've spent enough time in jail. I call on ALL of Russia to let Pussy Riot go free.'

Organizers have promised big announcements up until the date of the show, so expect more of these surprises in the next week.

Trove of 1980s Madonna pop culture awaits auction

Long before Newsweek called her a 'tarted-up floozy,' way before she married and had babies and adopted babies, and a lifetime before she opened an Instagram account, Madonna was a young woman in New York trying to make it big.

That ambition - and a good bit of innocence - can be seen in a collection of photos, art and drawings that are on the auction block Feb. 9 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The collection is owned by the parents of Martin Burgoyne, an artist, Studio 54 bartender and Madonna's best friend during that time.

Burgoyne and Madonna befriended each other before she became famous. They were roommates and he played a huge role in Madonna's early career. He managed her first tour and drew the cover image of Madonna for her 1983 'Burning Up' EP album cover. They partied with artists Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and others. He was raised in England and went to New York to study art at the Pratt Institute.

Madonna and Burgoyne also supported each other emotionally and financially during hard times - after she was raped and when Burgoyne contracted AIDS.

Burgoyne died in 1986 after battling that disease. He was 23. Madonna wrote a song about him called 'In This Life' that was on her 1992 album 'Erotica.'

For decades, his parents have kept their son's memorabilia from that era private - until now.

Mary Dowd, the co-owner of Myers Fine Art, said Burgoyne's parents live in the Tampa Bay area and are in their 80s. They are selling the collection at an auction.

'I think they came to a point in their lives where they figured that it was time to do something with the collection,' Dowd said. 'And so they phone us up and asked us if we would come take a look at it, which we did, and so we saw the breadth of the collection, it was really pretty incredible.'

And then there are the Madonna photos. Some are candid Polaroids of her making goofy faces with Burgoyne. Others are black and whites, intended for an album cover, of Madonna looking poised and fragile. There are also numerous photos of Burgoyne, a handsome young man in a white shirt and suspenders.

Some of the photos were taken by Burgoyne, said Dowd, while it's unclear who took others. She said it's possible that Andy Warhol took some of the Polaroids, because they date to same years that he experimented with Polaroid portraits.

Dowd said one of the more remarkable items in the collection is Burgoyne's sketchbook, in which he inked photo booth sessions of Madonna, and a full-color sketch for her 'Burning Up' EP album cover. The image is totally '80s, all bright block colors. Madonna sports short hair and thick eyebrows.

Dowd isn't sure how much each piece will go for - the original Warhol portrait of Burgoyne should fetch a good price, she thinks - but she's secretly hoping Madonna herself will hear about the auction and bid on some items.

'It seems like it's something she should have for her historical archives,' said Dowd. 'It's a big part of her life, from the beginning.'

Madonna Celebrates Daughter Mercy's Birthday

Madonna along with family and close friends, celebrated her daughter Mercy's 8th birthday on Saturday, Jan. 18, E! News can exclusively confirm. This sighting of the Material Girl came shortly after she apologized for using the racial slur accompanying an Instagram photo of her 13-year-old son, Rocco.

Madonna, her sons Rocco and David, her daughter Lourdes, a few adult supervisors, several nannies and about 15 of Mercy's friends enjoyed a private pizza party at Serafina restaurant in New York City.

'Mercy was clearly having a ball,' an eyewitness dished about the adorable 8-year-old. 'She was wearing a fancy little embellished dress with a white fur jacket. She and her friends were very giggly.'

The group feasted on a variety of pies and Madonna treated herself to the restaurant's signature Tartufo Nero pizza, which has potatoes, robiola cheese and black truffles. Sounds absolutely delicious!

After eating birthday cake, Mercy stood next to her mother while she opened her presents and held them up so that the whole group could see the goodies.

'Mercy and her friends were especially giddy towards the end,' the eyewitness added. 'While waiting in line for the restroom they could be heard singing Miley Cyrus' ‘Wrecking Ball' at the top of their lungs. It was actually supercute.'

After two hours, Madonna departed her daughter's party and the rest of the gang continued to revel in the festivities.

Madonna's Full Statement: 'Forgive Me'

Madonna has released this statement on her Facebook page:

'I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur. I am not a racist. There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention. It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me.'

Madonna apologises for racial slur

Madonna has apologised for using a racial slur to refer to her white son on Instagram.

When fans objected, she defiantly called them haters, but in a statement today she was contrite, saying: 'Forgive me.'

Madonna said she is not a racist and did not mean to use the word as a slur but knows there is no way to defend its use. She said she used it as a term of endearment.

She said she apologises if it gave the wrong impression.

Sean Penn thanks Madonna for coming to Haiti

Sean Penn has thanked Madonna for coming to Haiti to help him with his charity work.

The 'Gangster Squad' actor - who was married to the 'Material Girl' singer for four years from 1985 to 1989 - is founder of the J/P Haitian Relief Organisation and Ambassador-at-Large for the Caribbean country and he was delighted when his ex-wife decided to come to the country to help him with his efforts, something that didn't take much convincing.

Speaking at his Help Haiti Home benefit gala, Penn told E! Online: 'I don't know if I called her [Madonna] or if it was one time that we ran into each other but, I said, 'Would you like to come down [to Haiti]?' She said she would. She came down with her son Rocco and it was great to have them down there.'

Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake which killed more than 250,000 people four years ago and Penn has since been working to provide rescue and aid efforts to Haitian's whose lives have been destroyed by the disaster.

The 53-year-old actor - who has children Dylan Frances Penn and Hopper Jack Penn with his second wife, Robin Wright - added that Madonna's presence on the island helps the world to see 'the enormous amount of change that's happened in Haiti'.

Madonna visits Timor's hometown

Looks like the press are not going to stop gossiping about Madonna's 'new boyfriend' as this article from Contact Music shows:

Madonna has visited her new boyfriend's hometown. The 'Material Girl' singer's relationship with backing dancer Timor Steffens - who was first spotted with her as they spent Christmas skiing with her family in Gstaad, Switzerland - is hotting up as they visited Rotterdam in the Netherlands together last week.

The pair stayed in a luxury yacht previously owned by opera singer Maria Callas which has been converted into a hotel and also dined at an exclusive sushi restaurant. Owner of the yacht, Willem Post, said he only recognised the 'Music' singer when she came to breakfast.

He said: 'A blonde woman in an expensive bathrobe and a young guy came to the table ... When I realised it was Madonna, I pretended I didn't recognise her. I only spoke with her briefly. She found Rotterdam a beautiful city with unique architecture and was interested in the history of the ship.' The couple were later seen eating at Japanese restaurant Ono.

According to RadarOnline.com, a waitress said: '[Madonna] came in with her hood up and a thick jacket, so I did not recognise her. But then I saw Timor, and I though, 'Oh that must be Madonna.' Another waitress added: 'They were very cozy together and held hands.'

Madonna, 55, was also seen kissing the 26-year-old dancer. While in the city the budding couple didn't get time to visit Timor's mother, but she is happy about his new relationship, saying their holiday is 'something you do with someone you cherish, that you can talk to and be intimate with.'

Madonna recruits Katy Perry to curate #artforfreedom

Madonna has recruited Katy Perry to guest curate her Art of Freedom project.

The popstar pair will work together to pick a winner for the online competition, which will see artists submit videos, music, poetry and photographs to best express their take on freedom.

The victor will then be awarded a $10,000 grant to a nonprofit organisation of their choice, with Madge and K-Pez working together to select an artist 'whose creative expression demonstrates a unique view of the fight for human rights', Billboard reports.

Speaking of her new role, the Unconditionally singer said: 'I am so fortunate to have the freedom to express myself through music. Now I'm calling all of my incredibly creative KatyCats to use their talent to show Madonna and me how they express their freedom.'

Perry added: 'I believe that 2014 can be a year of great social change. Together we can all stand up for Human Rights. Join the conversation, and let your art be your voice.'

Madonna noted: 'Art can change the world, but first it needs to be seen and heard. Katy Perry and I are asking you to be that voice and show us how you define freedom in 2014. This will be a year of monumental changes for human rights, and we want you to be a part of that change. Let us hear from you.'

US illusionist David Blaine was last month's guest curator, with the Art of Freedom project first launching in September 2013.

Madonna answers back over Rocco 'drink' photo

Madonna has insisted that her 13-year-old son Rocco wasn't drinking alcohol after posting a picture online of him holding a bottle of gin.

The Queen of Pop came under fire when she shared an image on Instagram of Rocco - her son from her marriage to director Guy Ritchie - holding the booze as he stood between two friends who were clutching bottles of vodka.

The 55-year-old captioned the snap: 'The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014.'

The picture, taken during the family's New Year break in Switzerland, met with some criticism online, with one fan saying it was 'extremely irresponsible' and another questioning whether the boys were old enough to drink.

However, Madonna quickly fired back to explain that Rocco and his friends hadn't actually been drinking the alcohol.

'No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humour! Don't start the year off with judgment!' she wrote.

Madonna has been on holiday in Gstaad with her children Rocco, Lourdes, 17, and eight-year-olds David and Mercy.

Miley: Madonna Wasn't My First First Choice For 'Unplugged'

Miley Cyrus and Madonna turned it out for 'MTV's Unplugged,' but the 21-year-old initially wanted another music legend to share the "Unplugged" stage with her.

Access Hollywood's Liz Hernandez spoke to Miley as she prepped for her upcoming 'Bangerz' tour, where she revealed who first came to mind when planning the big surprise.

'I just wanted to have a special guest that would be something that no one saw coming, especially with it being 'Unplugged.' I really wanted my [godmother] Dolly [Parton] to be there,' Miley revealed to Liz.

When the country legend couldn't make the show, Miley looked to a different legendary performer.

'[Dolly] had a show on the day of 'Unplugged,' so she wasn't able to be there, so I was like, who can I bring besides Dolly that would be something like that? And I [thought] Madonna... I don't think people would expect her to go on 'Unplugged' like that,' she continued.

But landing Madonna, who performed a mash-up of 'We Can't Stop' and 'Don't Tell Me' with Miley, wasn't even a definite.

'I never knew if it was gonna be possible. We just kind of threw it out there and when I was working on my record I wanted to have her on a song... she was working on her album and then when it was time for 'Unplugged,'' Miley explained.

The young singer was pleasantly surprised when Madonna was up for some playful onstage groping.

'I started grabbing on her and kind of messing around... and then she was like not afraid of that, obviously, because it's Madonna!' she said. 'It was nice to be on stage with someone that isn't afraid of what I'm gonna do, that totally embraces what I'm doing. It was fun and it was awesome.'
