Cher: 'Madonna Is An Amazing Artist'

Superstar Cher has put her former feud with chart rival Madonna firmly in the past, insisting she has nothing but respect for the Queen of Pop and her ability to stay on top of the latest trends.
The Believe hitmaker was taking part in a question and answer session with fans on Reddit.com on Saturday when she was asked if she still hates Madonna, a year after appearing to criticise the Material Girl's decision to call her last album MDNA, a take on party drug MDMA.
She replied to the fan, 'Madonna, no. Actually I don't (hate her). I never hated her, I just thought she was a b**ch. Actually I quite respect her.'
She went on to lavish praise on the blonde singer, adding: 'Actually I think Madonna might be one of the most amazing artists I've known. I don't like everything she does, for sure, but she is always riding the crest of the wave. She always saw trends way before anyone else, and had great videos.'
Cher came under attack from Madonna's loyal following last year after sarcastically branding her MDNA album title 'tasteful'.
The 67 year old also previously took aim at the pop veteran during Madonna's 2006 Confessions tour, when Cher insisted stunts like entering from the ceiling and cracking a whip were eerily familiar to her own past stage antics.
She said, 'I look at Madonna and think, 'Nice try dear, but you're not doing anything I didn't do 20 years ago.''

Madonna Launches #secretprojectrevolution

Madonna performed for a star-studded crowd in New York City on Tuesday night as she launched a new Internet project.

Stars including Lindsay Lohan, Zachary Quinto and Madonna's ex-husband Sean Penn turned out for the launch of the singer's Art For Freedom initiative, which encourages members of the public to submit 'video, music, poetry, and photography' to a new website.

The event at the Gagosian Gallery in Manhattan featured the screening of a promotional film, which shows the singer playing a prisoner and a jailer, as well as a performance from the Queen of Pop.

The Vogue star performed a new song onstage with a masked dancer, who was eventually revealed as her young son, Rocco.

As part of the launch celebrations, the film, directed by photographer Steven Klein, was also screened at various locations around the world, including London, Los Angeles, Toronto in Canada, Paris, France, and Berlin, Germany.

A statement about the project, posted on the Artforfreedom.com website, explains, 'Madonna & Steven Klein invite you to start your own revolution of love. We have created this platform to give people around the world an opportunity to answer the question: 'What does freedom mean to you?' Express your personal meaning of freedom and revolution in the form of video, music, poetry, and photography. Join the revolution by submitting your art for freedom below, or by tagging your posts #ArtForFreedom.'

Fan Report from the #secretprojectrevolution in London

madonnalicious reader Dec was at the Tate Modern screening last night of the #secretprojectrevolution film and shares his report:

I saw the Tate Modern London showing, the Soho one in Chinatown was packed, the 11pm one at the Tate was a little quieter but it was late. I thought about just watching youtube today but felt the call to war from our Queen. The screening started a little late, but only 15 minutes or so. A lot of people were wandering around thinking how and where exactly is this screening going to happen. Eventually a van and some production people arrived in a van with a massive projector and several speakers. After a test projection, the film started. It was entertaining, worth the trip and wait, she looked glorious most times, very angry tone throughout.

Not as fashion-y as I first thought, mini gang bang, she kills all the dancers. It is worth several more looks, no new music, no Rihanna. Brahim in there as an abusive police man, with Madonna being thrown in jail for artistic expression.

About 6 minutes into the screening, some people arrived in pyjamas and nightgowns and a big row occurred, I thought they were part of the show, maybe a live performance too, but no they were nasty moaning neighbours annoyed over the volume and disturbance, living next to a modern art gallery! They would not back down, kicking over speakers etc, I think they needed a dose of love and tolerance too, it was only 16mins long!

Passers by stopped, wondered what was happening, got very excited when they heard it was to do with Madonna but they got far too excited and chatty, but I had to remember love and tolerance so I just semi-glared at them with a silence look on me, they started to whisper...

Some production guys taking photos, interviewing, recording the crowd, asking what freedom meant to us. There was another man in a big bobble hat, asking questions, provoking thought. He looked very familiar, I convinced myself he was an old fit flame, thought he'd recognise me any mo, but no, I eventually recognised him as the superfit M bodyguard! Think Davis Collins funeral, she certainly keeps the staff busy on other projects!

Definitely thought provoking, and after 30 years it seems she is a little tired of I quote 'singing the same song, sit there, dance that same dance for us, and shake your ass while you are at it.' Can't remember everything, there was plenty of recording going on. Was glad I went, there was also beautiful choreography, was another group effort for Madonna and the dance team. Worthwhile, surprise secret trip outdoors. Very moving in some sections, sad in others, made me think a lot more I guess. Will definitely be watching it again and again.

Madonna's 'MDNA World Tour' Blu-ray recalled in US

Madonna's 'MDNA World Tour' Blu-ray has been recalled in the US due to an 'error in manufacturing'.

Fans complained that the sound and visual quality of the tour DVD was substandard, prompting Interscope Records to concede that the 5.1 audio had been compromised.

'Due to an error in manufacturing that has compromised the 5.1 audio in the US, a full recall of the Blu-ray disc will be issued in the US. No other markets will be affected. We apologise for this inconvenience,' the label said.

For fans in other areas experiencing issues, it added: 'Interscope Records would like to make consumers of Madonna's 'MDNA World Tour' Blu-ray disc aware that the concert will be seen at its most optimal quality by properly adjusting the settings on your television to 'Normal/Movie' mode rather than 'Dynamic/Enhanced' mode. Older Blu-ray players or those without a firmware upgrade may experience glitches when navigating the Blu-ray menu. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to upgrade firmware.

The 'MDNA World Tour' home video debuted at number one on Billboard's Music Video Sales chart last week after selling 11,000 copies.

Madonna's Net Worth: $500 Million In 2013

Madonna‘s net worth estimate appears in the current Forbes 400 issue in the Ones To Watch section, putting the singer alongside other entrepreneur-entertainers such as country singer Toby Keith, magician David Copperfield and golfer Phil Mickelson as likely candidates to join our list of the richest Americans in the future. The blurb published in the magazine is reproduced below.

Madonna: Halfway to being a billionaire.
Estimated Net Worth: $500 million

The Material Girl has certainly lived up to her moniker: after 3 decades of pop superstardom, she’s one of the world’s wealthiest entertainers, earning $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013 thanks to her MDNA tour, which grossed $305 million. Madge’s fortune is also bolstered by clothing and perfume lines as well as investments in art, real estate and beverage company Vita Coco.

Press Release: secretprojectrevolution

Madonna's secretprojectrevolution, the 17-minute film she co-directed with Steven Klein, will be unveiled on September 24th, 2013. The film launches Art For Freedom, an online global initiative to further freedom of expression, created by Madonna, curated by VICE, and distributed by BitTorrent.

'My goal is to show by the example of secretprojectrevolution my creative commitment to inspire change in the world through artistic expression. I hope my film and other submissions to Art For Freedom will be a call-to-action and give people a place to voice their own creative expression to help fight oppression, intolerance and complacency,' commented Madonna.

Art For Freedom is a global digital initiative, led by Madonna, designed to fuel free speech - to respond, address and protest persecution around the world. It is an online public art project encouraging the world to express their personal meaning of freedom and revolution, in the form of video, music, poetry, and photography. Public submissions will become part of the Art For Freedom platform: contributors can join the project by uploading original artwork or tagging original posts #artforfreedom.

Art For Freedom launches with the secretprojectrevolution film distributed as a BitTorrent Bundle. The film, plus bonus content, is available to the public for free download for beginning September 24 at 2pm EDT. Anyone can download and unlock the secretprojectrevolution Bundle (bundles.bittorrent.com/madonna-revolution/) to receive the film, plus bonus content, for free.

The BitTorrent Bundle is a powerful new media format that's built to move freely across the Internet. It is designed to hold any file type, and any file size. And it's designed to encourage and empower free expression, beyond the Internet's walled gardens.

Fans who download the secretprojectrevolution Bundle will instantly receive stills from the film and three HD film trailers. Those who submit their email will unlock access to the Revolution film in both HD and 2K Digital Cinema resolution, an exclusive HD and 2K Digital Cinema interview with Madonna conducted by Eddy Moretti, VICE's Chief Creative Officer, as well as a special handwritten message from Madonna.

'This film operates on many levels. It examines our private prisons. It questions what we do, how we do it, and how we treat others. It questions our governments, and our collective thought patterns. Think about it - the power of art can lead to peace,' commented Steven Klein.

'BitTorrent and VICE are both innovative and forward thinking which is why we chose to partner with them on the launch of 'Art for Freedom' platform and the film 'secretprojectrevolution,' commented Guy Oseary, Madonna's longtime manager.

'Madonna is making a bold move, putting herself out there to support those suffering under repressive regimes around the world. Art For Freedom comes from a place of real empathy and emotion. It's a reflection of a world in crisis by an artist who has decided that apathy is not an option. In one discussion, Madonna told me that she wanted to start a 'revolution of love.' How can you argue with that?' commented Eddy Moretti, Chief Creative Officer, VICE Media.

'The Internet drives creativity, democratizes information, and allows people to connect with one another', shared Shahi Ghanem, Chief Strategy Officer for BitTorrent, Inc. 'The new BitTorrent Bundle format captures this ideal by giving artists and publishers an entirely new, people-driven distribution tool that is limitless in quality and versatility - enabling them to connect with fans however and wherever they want. Using the Bundle format to help an iconic artist like Madonna share expression freely with the world is a perfect showcase for the technology and we're thrilled to support her efforts.'

Madonna's Hamptons horse farm road under scrutiny

A minor tempest over an access road built on Madonna's Hamptons horse farm appears to have been settled.
Newsday reports that Suffolk County officials sent the entertainer a cease-and-desist letter. It said her 24-acre Bridgehampton property was improperly being used as a cut-through for construction vehicles to get to her adjacent land.
The county prohibits any 'driveway, roadway, path or thoroughfare' on land belonging to its farmland preservation program. The only exception is for agricultural uses.
An attorney for Madonna's for Wild Horses Farms LLC, Edward Burke Sr., called it 'an unfortunate mistake.'
It has since been removed.
He says the unpaved road in question was always temporary. He adds that 'there was no harm done.'

BitTorrent and Madonna join forces for free speech

BitTorrent is making its biggest move yet in its quest to become a legitimate source of legal content: partnering with Madonna.

The queen of pop is using BitTorrent to distribute her new film, secretprojectrevolution, for free beginning Sept. 24. Madonna co-directed the 17-minute movie with photographer Steven Klein in an effort to raise awareness about human rights—specifically, free speech.

The film launches Madonna’s online Art for Freedom project, a call for crowdsourced videos, songs, poems, and photos that protest oppression and persecution—hashtagged #artforfreedom, obviously. VICE Media will be curating the project.

Madonna fans can download the secretprojectrevolution Bundle on BitTorrent beginning Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. EST. The Bundle includes film trailers and stills, but if you go a step further and submit your e-mail or make a donation, you unlock the HD and 2K versions of the film, a VICE interview with Madonna, and a message from the star.

BitTorrent’s Bundles aren’t solely for celebrities, though the company has collaborated with Public Enemy, the Pixies, and Linkin Park on Bundles this year. BitTorrent on Tuesday also launched BitTorrent Bundles for Publishers, an alpha program that lets artists, musicians, writers, and other content creators distribute bundles of any size and file type using the BitTorrent client.

BitTorrent seems like a natural fit for Madonna’s project with its emphasis on the open and democratic nature of technology. The company has been criticized for being a little too liberal in its content distribution policies—peer-to-peer file-sharing is often used to download pirated content, but BitTorrent has strived this year to establish itself as a legitimate publishing platform with high-profile music, film, and book partnerships.

BitTorrent wants to prove that its 170 million users will pay for quality content. Bundles could be the gateway for artists to publish, distribute, and perhaps even make some money by sharing tantalizing previews of their work—and yes, some free content—with fans.

More from Madonna's Reddit AMA

No Q&A with Madonna would be complete without some mention of the gays and sex.

One frisky user asked Madonna if she were a gay man would she be a top or a bottom? The 'Girl Gone Wild' singer responded by simply saying, 'I am a gay man.' The risque star revealed she has a bong in the shape of a penis, and if she could turn any gay man straight it would be Frank Ocean. (For the record, Ocean has never stated that he is not interested in both women and men. Nor has he ever identified his sexuality.)

When asked what the last great drag show she saw was, the superstar said a show happens every night during her 'MDNA' concert, in the pit, otherwise known as 'The Golden Triangle.' Another Redditor wanted to know what gay icon Marlene Dietrich means to her, to which the singer responded, '[S]he is the archetype of an iconic strong female equal [parts] masculine and feminine.'

Things got more serious when she was asked to define hate. A user wondered if some confuse a difference of opinion with hatred. But Madonna contested, responding, '[N]o, having a different of opinion is right hate is intolerance hate is discrimination hate is when you think youre [sic] better than someone else.'

Another questioner asked if she would ever help the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Africa. Madonna noted that she has already spoken out against the anti-gay laws in Malawi, where same-sex relations are criminalized. She later said that, in order to help world peace, religions and politics should 'not get involved with one another' and 'separate church and state.'

Although she has spoken out against issues like homophobia and sexism, censorship of artists, such as with Russia's Pussy Riot, is currently driving her creative voice.

She hinted that there 'might be' a new album in 2014, since her 'creative juices are flowing.'

Madonna did an AMA on Reddit, with her housekeeper typing

Madonna - who you might know best for ‘being Madonna’ - did an ‘ask me anything’-style Q&A session thing on nerd website Reddit last night, and, in among asking everyone to 'send photo' and admitting she dreams longingly about Brad Pitt, she managed to drop a pretty strong hint that there might be a new album out next year.

Asked if the world could expect any new music from her in 2014, Madonna said: 'there might be... my creative juices are flowing'. Which we’re going to go ahead and translate as: ‘Yes’.

Anyway, here are some Madonna highlights from the rest of the session:

A REDDIT NERD: Are you bringing out any more fragrances /perfumes? I have Truth or Dare but is there another called Naked as I cant seem to find it in any retailer's in the UK :( ??
ACTUAL MADONNA: dont get me started on that tired ass subject

A REDDIT NERD: Madonna, I heard you visited an amusement park in Helsinki, Finland while on MDNA tour there last year. How was it?
ACTUAL MADONNA: i got really sick to my stomach. but the rides werent long enough. i felt cheated.

A/R/N: If I twerk for you, would you twerk for me?
A/M: send photo

A/R/N: Hi Madonna! Would you consider doing a full-on rock album?
A/M: full-on no

A/R/N: Madonna is true that Rocco will release an album??
A/M: he wishes! Just need to get him thru the 8th grade right now. get him to do his math homework!

A/R/N: Hi Madonna!! Listen, I go through a rough breakup after a 3 year relationship with my bf...what should I do to ease the pain?? Which of your songs should I play repeatedly???
A/M: gang bang
A/M: the song gang bang from my last record

A/R/N: Hi, M! I hope you're doing well. What is the last dream you remember that you're willing to share?
A/M: Brad Pitt and I were living together and there was a small blonde child in the bed. Sorry Angelina, it was only a dream.

A/R/N: if you were a gay man, would you be a top or bottom
A/M: i am a gay man

Madonna wants to work with Daft Punk

Madonna has revealed that she could collaborate with Daft Punk in the future.
The pop superstar dropped the news as she took part in an Ask Madonna Almost Anything session on Reddit, saying she had already got in touch with the French duo - Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.
'I would love to work with Daft Punk,' she wrote, adding: 'Just waiting for them to return my call.'
The 55-year-old, who previously worked with their collaborator Nile Rodgers when he produced her 1985 album Like A Virgin, also said she may start work shortly on her 13th album, hinting that it could be released in 2014. Her 12th album MDNA was out in 2012
'There might be... my creative juices are flowing...' she teased.
Madonna denied rumours that her son Rocco, whose father is her ex-husband Guy Ritchie, is planning to release an album.
She said: 'He wishes! Just need to get him thru the 8th grade right now. Get him to do his math homework!'
The mother-of-four also revealed that she had a dream about taking Angelina Jolie's place with fiance Brad Pitt.
'Brad Pitt and I were living together and there was a small blonde child in the bed. Sorry Angelina, it was only a dream. The fact that I had a dream about Brad Pitt... made me laugh,' she added.

Madonna's Rep Denies Engagement Rumour

A spokesperson for Madonna has shut down a tabloid report suggesting the pop icon is engaged.
Editors at In Touch magazine claimed the Material Girl is ready to take her romance with 25-year-old Brahim Zaibat to the next level by getting married.
Madonna was even said to have introduced the back-up dancer as her 'fiance' during a visit to the Kabbalah Centre in New York last week, with a purported source insisting, 'She looked so happy and didn't try to keep it a secret. It was like she wanted everyone to know she was going to marry this man.'
However, a representative for the star has now set the record straight, telling GossipCop.com the engagement report is 'not true at all'.

Madonna On Syria: U.S. Should 'Stay Out'

Madonna is the latest person to join the chorus of voices speaking out on the ongoing situation in Syria. The pop diva took to Facebook on Thursday to express her position on the possibility of the United States' intervention in the Asian nation.
The 'MDNA' singer has long been an ardent supporter of President Barack Obama, who is currently pushing for military intervention in the wake of Syria's use of chemical weapons. But Madonna has also been vehemently anti-war, having once compared President George W. Bush's tactics to those of Saddam Hussein.

Madonna can never stop dancing

Madonna should not stop dancing because it is integral to her stage act, says breakdancer Lilou.
The Algerian b-boy joined the 55-year-old pop superstar on her 2012 'MDNA Tour' as a dancer and choreographer.
Although the 'Material Girl' singer attracted some criticism for her raunchy dancing during her last run of shows, Lilou wants her to stay edgy when it comes to dance because she is famous for it
He said: 'Madonna shouldn't stop dancing because it is a part of her act.'
Even though he is an expert at breakdancing and a two-time winner of the Red Bull BC One All Star competition and a two-time World Final Champion, Lilou insists he learnt a lot from working with Madonna.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: 'When I was doing some stuff with her, like a duo, we needed to be specific and careful. She helped me with that. We needed to not hurt her because she was the main act of the show, so when we did some stuff with her we had to be very clear.''
The 29-year-old dancer's first performance with Madonna was when she played the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in February 2012 and he admits he felt the pressure of dancing in front of such a large crowd and millions of TV viewers.
He explained: 'I was a little bit stressed at the Super Bowl because it was the first time I performed with Madonna. Our part was quite risky because we had to carry Madonna and we were dancing on benches, so there was a lot of risk. You couldn't mess up.'
Lilou will be competing at the Red Bull BC One World Finals - the world's leading one-on-one B-Boy World Championship - in Seoul, Korea, on November 30
The organisers are commemorating their 10-year anniversary this year and they are inviting back all of the eight previous winners to compete against each other. Lilou is the only person to have won twice and he cannot wait to test his skills again.
He said: 'I'm very excited about it because it will be a good competition this year with good dancers and all of the champions here, so it will be intense.'
The Red Bull BC One competition will be live-streamed on Redbullbcone.com
