Madonna visits Hard Candy Fitness club in Rome

Madonna visited her soon-to-open Hard Candy Fitness club in Rome Wednesday evening where she signed the club’s mantra, “Harder Is Better” on the wall.  She also hosted an intimate screening of “Secret Project” at the club for a select group of members, friends and fans.   The 17 minute film about tolerance, freedom and love was created by Madonna and Steven Klein.

During a tour of the facility prior to the screening, Madonna was most enthusiastic about the group fitness studio which has a special floating dance floor where members will perform the brand’s signature Addicted to Sweat workout programs, which are based on her personal workout routine.

The club will be the first of several Hard Candy Fitness locations planned for Rome and was developed in partnership with Dabliu, one of largest Italian networks in the fitness industry. The first location – a 13,000 square foot facility across from the Coliseum will open for workouts in October with a grand opening event scheduled at that time...  An enrollment center is now open at Via Capo d’Africa, 5 and early memberships are currently being offered at exclusive, limited time special rates.

“We were very proud to personally welcome Madonna visit to our Hard Candy Fitness Rome club,” stated Andrea and Ugo Pambianchi, owners of Dabliu and Managers of Hard Candy Fitness Rome. “Her presence here has been truly inspiring and we cannot wait to pass her energy onto our members. We are pleased to announce the opening of our second location and offer another luxury fitness brand to residents in our city!”

The second location of Hard Candy Fitness is on Viale Romania, 22 – near the center of the city... The facility will be a conversion of a 21,000 square foot Dabliu Parioli club and is also scheduled to open October 2013.

Hard Candy Fitness, founded in partnership with Madonna and New Evolution Ventures (NeV), has also recently announced that the first of several Hard Candy Fitness clubs in Berlin will open in September, joining the current locations in Sydney, Santiago, Mexico City, Moscow, and St. Petersburg, Russia. The brand is expected to announce the opening of multiple locations this year as it continues its expansion into destination cities around the world.

Madonna wears daring Marie Antoinette costume

Madonna celebrated her 55th birthday at an extravagant French Revolution-themed party in France this weekend.
The queen of pop, who was joined by her toyboy boyfriend Brahim Zaibat, 25, wore a daring Marie Antoinette costume complete with curly blonde wig, long false eyelashes, and a black heart-shaped eye patch.
The superstar clearly had a ball at her birthday bash, tweeting a picture of herself clad in an extravagant violet-coloured garment, embellished with sparkling sequins and showing off her incredibly toned legs: 'Perhaps we had too much Cale! But at my Birthday Party all I could see was LOVE.'
She speedily tweeted again to correct a mistake. 'Perhaps I had too much Champagne! I meant to write CAKE!' wrote the party-lover.
The pop icon was surely referring to Marie Antoinette's famous phrase, 'let them eat cake'. She made sure there would be enough for her soirée, with a sweet five-tiered cake complete with sparklers to match the occasion.
Madonna’s spectacular party was catered for by luxury bakery Ladurée and seems to have been filled with the epitome of French chic – photographs shared on Instagram show a classic white piano, extravagant cocktails and guests dressed in wonderful costumes.
The birthday girl was pictured arm-in-arm with her eldest daughter Lourdes, as well as sitting on her boyfriend Brahim Zaibat's lap at the bash with a cocktail clasped firmly in her hand.
Prior to the special soirée, Madonna arrived with her boyfriend in the South Of France and visted Menton, a picturesque coastal town close to the French-Italian border where a classical music festival takes place every year, the weekend before.

Madonna's 40 Biggest Billboard Hits

She's the Queen of Pop and royalty on the Billboard charts. To celebrate Madonna's 55th birthday, we've compiled an exclusive ranking of the diva's 40 biggest Billboard Hot 100 hit singles.
Since arriving on the Hot 100 the week of Oct. 29, 1983, with 'Holiday,' she has earned a total of 56 chart hits, including a record 38 top 10 singles. Yes, you read that right: Madonna has more top 10 hits than any other artist in the 55-year history of the chart (and incidentally, Madonna was born the exact same month as the Hot 100, which also just celebrated its 55th birthday). The Beatles are in second place, with 34 top 10s.

Help Madonna help her hero for her birthday

Madonna posted this picture and message on her Instagram page, thanking fans for their birthday love and asking them to support one of her heroes.

'Thank u all for your #birthday love! Help me celebrate my birthday, by donating to Raising Malawi to support the work of one of my Heroes, Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Eric Borgstein: http://bit.ly/mbdayborg. Revolution of LOVE!'

Madonna also posted a longer message on the Raising Malawi website:

Many of you know Dr. Eric Borgstein, one of Raising Malawi’s long-standing partners and one of my personal heroes. Dr. Borgstein is a pediatric surgeon who provides care to thousands of children in Malawi. When I met with him earlier this year in Malawi, we discussed expanding the pediatric training program that Raising Malawi supports to train more young surgeons in Malawi.
To learn more, watch the below video from our team’s latest trip to Malawi. If you are as inspired as I am, please donate. Every dollar donated through this link: http://bit.ly/mbdaymalawi will go to Dr. Borgstein’s program to train more surgeons who are saving the lives of children in Malawi.

With Gratitude and Love,
Madonna

Op-ed: Are You There, Madonna? It’s Me, Ari

Singer Ari Gold grew up with Madonna, and his admiration for the pop icon shines through his work.

I came out to my orthodox Jewish family in my first year of college in an 18-page letter I read aloud to them. When my mother couldn’t blame herself for my being gay, she tried blaming Madonna, and tore down my shrine which included LPs hanging on the walls, European sized movie posters, home made collages and a mammoth in-store cardboard cutout display of 'Who’s That Girl.'
Fifteen years of therapy later, I realize that much of my adult career has been about being noticed by my mother and my father - a recurring theme in Madonna’s own life and career. I had enjoyed a successful career as a child vocalist singing on more than 400 jingles including backgrounds for Diana Ross and playing a character on my favorite cartoon, Jem and the Holograms. But after my voice changed and I wasn’t working anymore, I felt like a has-been—at age 14.
As if puberty isn’t tough enough, my father decided he was going to start a talent management company for other children. It was the ultimate show business rejection.

Prosecutors say Madonna Violated Russian Law

US pop divas Madonna and Lady Gaga, who championed gay rights during their shows in Russia, had cultural exchange visas that 'did not provide for' performing for profit, Russian prosecutors said Thursday.
The Prosecutor General’s office released a statement in response to an inquiry submitted in April by St. Petersburg lawmaker Vitaly Milonov, author of the city’s controversial anti-gay propaganda law. The St. Petersburg City Council member accused both US musicians of distributing 'homosexual propaganda' among minors and said they performed in Russia illegally.
Milonov authored a bill making 'promoting sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism among minors' in St. Petersburg punishable with fines of up to 500,000 rubles ($15,000). The bill was adopted in March 2012 and served as a basis for federal legislation banning the promotion of 'non-traditional sexual relations' among minors that was signed into law in June.
Madonna and Lady Gaga had cultural exchange visas that 'were used with the aim of conducting commercial concert activities,' although their visas 'did not provide for' making profit, the statement from the Prosecutor General’s office said.
The office said it might send the information about the violations to Russia’s Foreign Ministry and Federal Migration Service in order to prosecute the singers and prevent similar things from happening. It did not provide further details about possible prosecution.
During her August 2012 shows in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Madonna asked the audience to raise their hands in support of gays and lesbians and also spoke out in support of the jailed Pussy Riot band members.
Shortly after the show, a group of Russian activists filed lawsuits against Madonna and the show’s organizers, seeking $10.5 million in compensation for 'moral damages.' A St. Petersburg court ruled in November that the pop star had not violated the anti-gay propaganda law during her show.
Ahead of her December show in St. Petersburg, Lady Gaga thanked Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in a tweet for 'not standing by' the Kremlin’s anti-gay propaganda bill, which had been submitted to the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament. Asked about the bill, Medvedev had said that 'not all relations between people can be regulated by law.'
A Russian show business promoter said that the decision by the Prosecutor General’s office may stop foreign artists from performing in Russia.
'Not one artist, circus or exhibition will come here if the Prosecutor’s Office fines someone now,' Yevgeny Finkelstein, head of the St. Petersburg-based PMI media holding told RIA Novosti.

Who's that girl? It's Madonna at the circus....

Madonna was front row at the circus on Wednesday night to see the show Limbo on the South Bank.
Wearing dark-rimmed glasses, the singer seemed to enjoy the mix of circus, acrobatics, dance and music in the Twenties-inspired Spiegeltent, part of the London Wonderground.
She had watched Cantina, by some of the creative team behind Limbo, at the same venue last year.
London Wonderground is a summertime festival of cabaret and circus presented by the Southbank Centre with Underbelly, who are best known as one of the biggest operators on the Edinburgh Fringe.
For anyone wanting to see what grabbed Madonna’s attention, Limbo runs until September 29 - though you have to be 12 or over.

Madonna Options 'The Impossible Lives Of Greta Wells'?

Madonna's film efforts haven't received the highest praise in the past, but the 54-year-old queen of pop may try her hand at directing once again with an adaptation of the recently released novel 'The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells.'
Andrew Sean Greer, author of 'Greta Wells,' told SF Weekly that Madonna called him personally to discuss obtaining the rights for a movie. It's unclear whether the singer will simply produce, as Greer speculated, or take on a larger role with the project.
'Greta Wells' depicts a woman living in New York's Greenwich Village in 1985 when her gay twin brother dies of an unnamed disease that mirrors AIDS. The shock treatments she receives as therapy allow her to travel back in time to 1918 and 1941, where she encounters old acquaintances and finds much-needed self-discovery. Greer's book has received positive reception from critics, with The New York Times calling it a 'generous novel' that's 'as precisely engineered as a Swiss watch.'
'I got a phone call last week....I think it’s fine,' Greer reportedly told Litseen. 'No one’s asked me about this....From a celebrity who read the book and loved it so much she called me up personally to talk to me about it. I thought it was going to be one of her assistants who was like, loved your book, she’s interested. Right. She didn’t read it. But oh no, no, no. She called me. She read it. She totally got it. There were a couple other people interested and they sort of all made a deal together, and she’s optioned the rights to it. We’ll see what happens. But it’s fun because it was Madonna.'
If she were to direct, the movie would mark Madonna's third feature behind the camera, following 2008's 'Filth and Wisdom' and 2011's 'W.E.' Both efforts received largely negative reviews, but Madonna has never been one to shy away at the behest of critics.
