Events: Celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Girlie Show
Thursday, 07 March 2013
Madonna's Girlie Show is twenty years old and to commemorate this occasion, Madonnalicious & Madonna Celebrate present 'The Girlie Show' a charity benefit in aid of St. Stephens AIDS trust. Held in one of London's friendliest venue's, The Retro Bar. The event is jam packed with unforgettable Madonna performances, legendary 'M' video's, amazing DJ's, a Material Girl quiz, an 'M' tombola with marvellous Madge memorabilia all to raise vital funds and awareness for our chosen charity. To conclude this very memorable night, a dance and sing-a-long screening of the entire Girlie Show concert on the big screen.
Hosted by David Robson (G.A.Y./Heaven) Neil Prince (Songs of Praise, Guilty Pleasures), Craig (Eurosolutions) and Kurt Hoffman (Madonna Celebrate).
'The Girlie Show' is an interesting area of Madonna's long and varied career. She fell out of favour with some critics which thought she had gone 'too far' and her career was over. Others felt it as her best work yet and applauded her sexual confessions. Once again redefining the rock concert as a form of theatricality and showing that Madonna is a creative force to be reckoned with. The mother of re-invention is still the undisputed Queen of pop!

Almost same story as A.Z. I flew to Toronto for my first concert at 17. I stated with my cousin and went to the girlie show. We had tickets in the roof of the sky dome. Although happy to be there I wanted to be closer. So after the opening few songs I ran through the stadium and managed to get first row in the stands. I would have tried to get closer but they had the floor blocked off :(. It was amazing! I also took in the jays game seeing them win the first game of the world series. Everything about that was surreal. I've since gone to 4 more concerts, twice in Toronto, once in Montreal and latest in NYC! Always an experience!

It was an brilliant concert & a brave choice too- totally different from BAT etc, yet she took this amazing risk at a time when she was enduring a backlash.

Wow...has it really been 20 years since the Girlie Show. This was the very first concert I went to. Having been a long fan I was super excited to be allowed to go. And I say allowed because I was only 16 and in high school. My friend and I took her van from my place to Philly. It was crazy. It was the same night as the world series. It was a great time and I got to see what a real performer she was and still is.
