Madonna Changes Song Title After Joe Francis Legal Pressure?

Madonna's manager Guy Oseary has dismissed claims that Madonna changed a track title from her forthcoming album because of legal pressure from Joe Francis. Earlier this month, TMZ reported that Madonna had received a 'cease and desist' letter with regards to a track on her forthcoming album, which was entitled 'Girls Gone Wild.' Joe Francis, the entrepreneur behind the Girls Gone Wild franchise, reportedly threatened Madonna with legal action if she used the name as a track title on her album, MDNA.
However, today, Madonna's manager has told TMZ that Madonna's decision to change the track title to 'Girl Gone Wild' was made because that's the way she sings it in the song and was part of the final tweaking process of the album.
He added that other song titles had been altered as well, whilst they made the finishing touches to her twelfth studio album. Oseary also made reference to a Billboard story that claimed there are at least 50 records already entitled 'Girls Gone Wild, including releases by Ludacris, Lil' Rick and Jackie Kashian.
Oseary finished by insisting that Madonna had never heard of Joe Francis and as nobody in the Madonna camp had ever received the letter, was unaware of the legal threats being made against her.

Madonna Poked Fun At Redfoo's Weakness

Madonna poked fun at LMFAO star Stefan 'Redfoo' Gordy during their Super Bowl rehearsals - because he struggled to lift the pop superstar.
The Sexy and I Know It hitmaker and bandmate Sky Blu joined Madonna onstage at the Super Bowl half-time show in Indianapolis earlier this month and their performance was flawless - but he admits he almost let the Material Girl down during one sequence.
He tells Rolling Stone, 'In rehearsal, she said, 'If you were working out more, you could life me a little easier'. Her biceps were way more cut up than mine. She was like, 'Get a jump rope!''

On Friday night, we aired the last installment of our five-part, 100 Greatest Women in Music series. If you happened to miss the countdown, it’s spoiler alert time: VH1 crowned Madonna as the greatest female artist of the last 20 years.

While it’s tough to argue with the musical legacy of Madonna, we received an incredible number of comments, emails, and tweets from our VH1 audience asking about their ability to participate in this countdown. Well, we listened and worked to put together the following bracket-style tournament of The 8 Greatest Women In Pop where you, the reader, will be able to select the most accomplished female artist in the pop music game right now.

How Madonna's 'Girls Gone Wild' Came Together

'Girls Gone Wild,' the second single from Madonna's 'MDNA,' was born from the remote union of two Italian producers and a Canadian writer, all signed to Patrick Moxey's Ultra Music.
'Obviously it's huge for us,' Moxey tells Billboard.com. 'We have both the producer and the top-line writer; that's 100% share.'
The mid-tempo, four-on-the-floor party track is a tougher take on the style of Madge's 2005 effort, 'Confessions On A Dancefloor,' produced by Stuart Price: It's undeniably dance, but with stronger electro than house markings. ('MDNA' in totality will probably be more diverse, featuring the production of disco house champion Martin Solveig on four tracks, and the darker, trance-ier William Orbit on five.)
Moxey traces the song's beginning back to early 2011, when Ultra Records artist Benny Benassi was preparing to release 'Electroman,' his fourth studio album. Moxey thought his aggressive style would 'work well with some of the major American superstar artists,' so he requested additional tracks from Benny and his longtime production partner, Ale (Alejandro) Benassi, also his cousin.
Moxey selected a few tracks and shared them with Jenson Vaughan, a young top-line writer based in Vancouver. Vaughn had done extensive work with U.K. producer Ian Carey, on collaborations with artists like Timbaland, Kelly Rowland and Snoop Dogg. 'I was really attracted to his lyrics,' says Moxey, 'and I feel Benassi in my bones, because those bass-driven tracks are so inspiring. It's a bit like cooking, like, 'Ooh, what would this sound like together?''
Vaughn returned a demo just a week later, which Moxey shared with Benassi's European co-manager Paul Sears, who in turn sent it to Guy Oseary, Madonna's manager. Soon, the Benassi boys were on their way to London (from their home of Parma, Italy) to record with Madonna. 'She loved them,' reports Moxey. 'Benny is such a quality person; I think that made it all flow so much easier.'
Two tracks from that session - 'Girls' and 'I'm Addicted' - made it onto 'MDNA,' with 'Girls' opening the album.
'A brilliant way to have hits is to create hits,' says Moxey. 'When you have very talented people around you, you just make the introductions, and maybe give them some direction. It's the essence of the A&R process, but it's so natural - it's not contrived.'
Looking toward the release of the 'GGW' video, Moxey says he isn't concerned with a reported lawsuit from Joe Francis, creator of the 'Girls Gone Wild' series of co-ed flasher videos. 'When I looked at ASCAP, I noticed there were approximately 50 records called 'Girls Gone Wild,'' he says. 'This guy just thinks too much of himself.'

Holy mackerel! Super Bowl show from the stands

Take a look at this video clip showing the fantastic video floor effects (that did not show up on TV) and running commentary from a very excited Dad (we think) and two 12 year olds watching Madonna live for the first time!

It is an interesting and funny way to watch the show - the effect during Like A Prayer when the football pitch seems to be pulled away to reveal a starry universe and the audience turn on their torches is wonderful!

Madonna Holds Impromptu Whitney Houston Tribute

Madonna may have not been one of the 1,500 guests at Whitney Houston's Newark, NJ funeral on Saturday, but the blonde singer still held an impromptu memorial of her own for the late star.
On Friday night, Madonna, 53, hit up NYC hotspot Mister H in the Mondrian Soho hotel, where she showed up with a large group of her background dancers.
'Madonna was sitting down, watching as her dancers showed up their skills,' a source tells Us Weekly. 'When the DJ began to spin Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody,' Madonna perked up and started lip-synching the words.'
The source adds that when the star, who donned an all-black ensemble and a black-rimmed hat, realized her private area cut off a majority of the dance floor, she was seen chatting with security to give her crew a smaller space so everyone in the club would be able to have a place to dance.
'I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)' was Houston's fourth consecutive number one single and won her the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 1988 Grammy Awards.

Madonna is the act with the most global Top 10 hits

According to www.mediatraffic.de after the first full week at retail Madonna's 'Give Me All Your Luvin' makes a big jump from #22 to #7 (up 78% to 209.000 points) on the global chart.

It's Madonna's 43rd global Top 10 smash so far (at the moment the years 1985 and 1986 are still missing). So Madonna is the act with the most global Top 10 hits of all time, far ahead of Michael Jackson in second place with 30 hits.

Hyde Park concerts get go-ahead this year

The number of concerts held at Hyde Park has been cut from 13 a year to nine after complaints from residents.
Westminster Council has also decided to reduce the number of people who can attend the events, from 80,000 to 65,000, and in some cases to 50,000.
The changes come into effect next year. Hyde Park's licence to host events came under review after complaints about noise almost doubled since 2008.
A residents' group has criticised the council for not cutting decibel levels.
Mike Dunn, vice-chairman of Mayfair Residents' Association, said he felt the council's restrictions did not go far enough and did not address the problem of noise from the concerts.
He said: 'We were looking for a reduction to six and there hasn't been a reduction in the decibel levels that we were looking for. But we have received some additional conditions to improve the lot of residents.'
Some of the measures agreed at the council meeting will come into effect immediately, including trials of a new noise-reduction system along with the monitoring of sound levels.
Music with a repetitive bass beat would be subject to reassessment, the licensing sub-committee said.

Councillor Audrey Lewis, Westminster Council's Licensing chairman, said: 'We have a duty to balance the needs of local residents with the desire of concert organisers to hold events and the compromise that the committee has reached does all of this. We will monitor the additional noise control measures and continue to work with both concert organisers and residents to ensure this is an effective solution to concerns raised.'
John Probyn, chief operating officer of Live Nation, which organises concerts at the park, said: 'This is good news for the thousands of Londoners and visitors from overseas enjoying all concerts we have in place, and also the London 2012 events in Hyde Park this summer.'
London's Mayor Boris Johnson said he believed 'common sense has prevailed'.
He added: 'Westminster are right to respect their residents, but they also have a responsibility for the economic vitality of the capital overall. Large-scale music events like the Hyde Park concerts make a massive contribution to London's economy.'

Madonna Scores Record-Extending 38th Hot 100 Top 10

Almost 30 years after her arrival on Billboard's charts, Madonna continues to feel L-U-V from her fans. On this week's Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, her latest single, 'Give Me All Your Luvin',' featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., bounds 13-10 in its second chart week.
The first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, 'MDNA,' due March 26, becomes her 38th Hot 100 top 10, pushing her further ahead of runners-up the Beatles (34).

Madonna first reached the chart's top tier the week of June 16, 1984, when 'Borderline' rose to its No. 10 peak. She had last ranked in the region with '4 Minutes,' featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, the week of June 28, 2008.

Here is a look at the artists with the most top 10 songs in the Hot 100's 53-year history:

38 - Madonna
34 - the Beatles
28 - Michael Jackson
28 - Stevie Wonder
27 - Mariah Carey
27 - Janet Jackson
27 - Elton John
25 - Elvis Presley (whose career predates the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception)
23 - Whitney Houston

As previously reported, 'Luvin'' jumps 7-6 on the Digital Songs survey with 165,000 downloads sold (up 44%) in the list's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The period encompassed the first full week following Madonna's performance of the song at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
The track, slides, however, 28-59 on the Radio Songs chart (20 million audience impressions, down 54%, according to Nielsen BDS). 'Luvin'' had benefitted last week from special promotion on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's more than 50 monitored pop stations, which played it at the top of every hour from Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. ET until the big game's kickoff.
