Madonna denies hiring divorce lawyer

Queen Of Pop Madonna has denied claims she has hired a top lawyer to divorce husband Guy Ritchie. Gossip site Holy Moly yesterday reported that 10 days ago Madonna had hired the services of top lawyer Nicholas Mostyn, who was recently part of Sir Paul McCartney’s legal team. Not true, Madonna’s long time spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg says. 'There is no truth to reports of a divorce. Madonna has not met with any lawyers nor are there any plans for a divorce.'

Madonna to trade acting for directing

Madonna has vowed never to act again - because she would prefer to establish herself in Hollywood as a filmmaker.
The star has repeatedly tried her hand at acting since launching her singing career in the 1980s, playing lead roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy and Evita, for which she won a Best Actress Golden Globe in 1997.
But since directing the upcoming comedy Filth and Drama, the 49-year-old insists she has found her calling.
When asked if she still dreams of an acting career, she responds: 'Absolutely not, because now I've tasted directing. It's like Eve and the apple, I have to have a second bite. If you're an actress, it's not your vision.'
'The director tells the story, you are the chess piece that is moved around. That doesn't suit my personality.'
And the Holiday hitmaker is so fond of filmmaking, she insists she even prefers it to making music: 'You have more time to tell a story. You have an hour and half or two to save the world.'

Documentary screening at Glastonbury scrapped

Madonna has scrapped plans for the U.K. premiere of her documentary I Am Because We Are to be held at an English music festival, after tickets for the event failed to sell.
The Holiday hitmaker was reportedly planning to screen her latest documentary, which focuses on the plight of Malawian children, at Britain's Glastonbury festival later this month.
However, the event has struggled to shift tickets, with rapper Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter's headlining slot at the event being blamed for a decrease in demand, as the festival usually focuses on a rock-orientated line-up.
According to the Britain's Mail On Sunday newspaper, the Queen of Pop wanted to follow the screening with a possible question and answer session with festivalgoers, but has been put off by the lack of interest in this year's event.
A source tells the publication, 'Madonna hoped the film could be shown on the Saturday and there was talk of a question and answer session.
'But poor ticket sales for the festival put her off. After talks with the organisers it was decided the festival was not the right venue to showcase the film.'

Madonna Songs With Sony Ericsson Phones

Sony Ericsson and Warner Music International (WMI) have announced an agreement enabling new music and mobile content from Madonna’s new album, HARD CANDY, to be sold with selected Sony Ericsson mobile devices in twenty seven countries. High profile marketing campaigns in each country will promote the availability of the phones and Madonna’s eleventh studio album for Warner Bros. Records. HARD CANDY has debuted at number one in thirty seven countries, with '4 Minutes', the first single from the album, also hitting the top spot across the world.
From this month, a range of Sony Ericsson phones pre-loaded with HARD CANDY will be sold in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The phones will retail in two packages, one with five tracks from the album, the other with the full album and both with extra content such as wallpapers and ringtones. In a staggered roll-out that began in May, a download voucher for HARD CANDY and an array of additional content including an exclusive '4 Minutes' remix is being 'bundled' with purchases of the Sony Ericsson W890 Walkman phone in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. Sony Ericsson W380i Walkman mobiles in Belgium and Czech Republic are already available with a HARD CANDY CD.
John Reid, Vice Chairman WMI and President, Warner Music Europe, said, 'The evolution of mobile handsets along with technological convergence continues to open up new ways for us to distribute and market our artists' music. This partnership with Sony Ericsson further expands HARD CANDY's global promotional reach and puts exciting content from the album direct into the hands of Madonna fans all over the world. Not only that, packaging music from a global megastar with new Sony Ericsson phones will help drive sales of music-enabled devices and contribute to the uptake of mobile music'.
In January, Sony Ericsson unveiled the next stage in the evolution of their PlayNow platform, the popular over-the-air download service. It was announced that Warner Music Group was amongst the companies partnering with Sony Ericsson to add over 5 million new tracks to the platform.

Madonna planning another documentary?

Madonna is reportedly set to mark her 50th birthday by releasing a sequel to her infamous In Bed With Madonna documentary next year.
The Holiday hitmaker will produce the documentary with filmmaker Alex Keshishian, who directed the controversial 1991 movie, to celebrate her continued success in the music industry.
And the film will act as a reunion for Madonna - she has reportedly signed up most of the original production team for the new venture.
Keshishian is set to film the superstar over three weeks as she goes about her day-to-day life in London, according Britain's The London Paper.
A source tells the publication, 'It's like an In Bed With Madonna but made for today. She leads an amazing, high-paced life now and Alex thought the time was right to do another documentary of her life and career.'
The original documentary followed the star as she embarked on her hit 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, and proved a hit with fans, grossing GBP29 million (GBP14.5 million) at the global box office.

Vote: Greatest Albums of all Time

Glenn Cooper has recently launched a website to invite the public to vote for their Top 5 albums in an evolving poll to find the Greatest Albums of all time. The site was borne out of frustration at the number of TV and press polls based on very little research or the opinions of a few journalists. He wanted to give the people a chance to have their say and vote for their favourite albums to create a truly definitive global poll. He was previously the Head of Digital at Island Records UK for six years and left his role there to focus on this venture.

Is Ray Of Light or True Blue your favourite album of all time or is it in your Top 5 Albums? For the first time ever you can have your say in a Global Poll to find the Greatest Albums of all time at www.pollthepeople.com
So if you’d like to vote for one of Madonna’s albums in your Top 5 and also be connected to people who match some or all of your choices so you can discover great new music just go to www.pollthepeople.com now to take part.

Madonna strikes a pose on the front of the July 2008 edition of UK magazine Record Collector (no. 351), out now.
The latest edition of the magazine that is 'serious about music' includes the in-depth feature Madonna Rare - Unwrapping the Candy; a ten-page feature by Peter Magennis investigating B-sides and hidden gems from the most collectable diva of all.
The article reveals never-before-heard information about Madonna’s music and includes extracts from new and exclusive interviews with a number of Madonna’s collaborators from over the past 25 years, including Reggie Lucas, Guy Sigsworth, Mark Kamins, Tony Shimkin, Greg Fitzgerald, Daniel Abraham, Mark Endert, Rico Conning, Tony McGuinness (Above & Beyond), Ralph Falcon (Murk), Alvin Speights and Kevin Parker.
Peter Magennis got his first glimpse inside Madonna’s recording studio when he was just 11 years-old by reading an interview with one of her many collaborators in Smash Hits magazine. Almost 20 years later and Peter has interviewed over 100 musicians who have recorded with Madonna over the past 25 years. This is his first cover feature for Record Collector magazine.
