Madonna's Bon Voyage in Cannes

Is Madonna going to get swept away again?
A source at the Cannes Film Festival says that famed wrap-dress fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg is hosting an exclusive VIP luncheon tomorrow to toast the Cannes screening of I Am Because We Are, Madonna’s documentary about Malawi AIDS orphans.
The fete will take place aboard EOS, the $200 million 300-foot yacht owned by Von Furstenberg's husband Barry Diller. And guests shouldn’t be late. 'Launches will be waiting at 1:30 p.m. SHARP,' the invite reads.
The following night, Madonna joins Sharon Stone as cohost of the annual fundraising fete for AIDS organization amfAR.

Madonna scores European double

Madonna has proved to be the real Queen of Pop - she's scored a double atop the European singles and albums charts.
The superstar's collaboration with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, 4 Minutes, is the best-selling song in Europe for the third week running, while her new LP Hard Candy has overtaken Duffy's Rockferry to land the number one position on the European albums chart.

Gwyneth Paltrow: 'We are both perfectionists'

Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow really values having pop superstar Madonna as a best friend - because she is a 'perfectionist' like herself.
The Iron Man star, who has been good friends with the Material Girl since she moved to the U.K. in 2002, admires the singer's determination to keep herself looking great - despite being nearly 50.
But she also insists the pair can relax and have fun together, away from the public eye.
She says, 'She's a great woman. She's got a lot of wisdom. We just have fun together. She works on herself harder than anybody else I've met.'
'We do share that and we're both public women. We are both perfectionists.'

Madonna's party sends friends staggering home

Perhaps it was the free-flowing refreshments, or it could even have been religious fervour.
But whatever the reason, an evening with Madonna left some of her famous friends looking a little unsteady on their feet.
The singer, who is 50 in August, held a fund-raising event for the mystic Jewish religion kabbalah attended by, among others, Stella McCartney, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sting's wife Trudie Styler.
They poured out on to the streets at 1am with Gwyneth and Trudie so unsteady on their feet they needed to be held up.
They were joined by Madonna's team of fitness experts - who train most of her girlfriends at the gym she had built next to her home in Bayswater, West London. The fund-raising event was held at a private loft-style venue in Soho, where guests were played acoustic kabbalah music.

Madonna denied quintuple UK chart success

Madonna has been denied the chance to see five of her LPs in the U.K. album chart at the same time, after the country's Official Chart Company (OCC) deemed details surrounding their sales unfair.
The Material Girl star was set to score a chart quintuple last week after British supermarket giant Tesco offered consumers a free copy of one of four previous Madonna albums when they purchased her latest release Hard Candy.
The offer allowed fans to buy the LP for $18 (GBP9), and claim a copy of either The Immaculate Collection, Ray Of Light, Music or Confessions On A Dancefloor for free.
And the promotion gave the star's earlier albums a significant boost in the British mid-week charts; The Immaculate Collection shot to number 28, Confessions On A Dancefloor sat at 48, Music at 95, and Ray Of Light at 110.
But the U.K. chart's governing body, the OCC, have excluded the albums from being counted in last week's rundown, insisting the offer didn't comply with its stance on chart rules.
The move meant only Hard Candy's sales were counted, which gave the singer her 10th number one album in the U.K. and U.S. charts earlier this month.
OCC managing director Martin Talbot explains the decision: 'It is quite a core chart rule that we only count sales, and the marketing of this particular initiative is clear - if you buy Hard Candy through Tesco you can have one of these albums free of charge.'
He adds, 'We will be monitoring these kinds of offers to assess whether current rules cover what is becoming an increasingly common occurrence. We need to ensure it doesn't undermine the authority of the charts, which are there to measure sales.'

Worldwide distributors for Filth and Wisdom

Madonna's S&M film 'Filth & Wisdom' has been a spanking good seller for L.A. foreign sales outfit Katapult Films.Pic, which is the Material Girl's directorial debut, was sold to Hexagon Pictures in Japan, to Surreal Films in the CIS territories and United Arab Emirates-based Front Row Filmed Entertainment for the Middle East.
French rights were sold to La Fabrique de Films in a deal separately negotiated by CAA and lawyers Grubman Indursky & Shire. Pic is set for a North American release through IFC in the fall.

Tickets for Madonna's gig go on sale

The tickets have gone on sale for Madonna's 27-date world tour which kicks off in Cardiff in August.
A tickets agency in the city said there had been a queue of people waiting for their doors to open at 0900 BST.
The head of marketing at the Millennium Stadium said they were 'delighted' Madonna was starting her tour there.
'As she's starting her world tour here, it's placing a tremendous focus on Cardiff,' Gwyn Dolphin from the stadium said.
'This is the second time Madonna has performed here, it shows it's a good venue and a good location.'
He expected the concert to be a sell out with around 50,000 attending and Mr Dolphin said having the choice to open or close the roof gave them added flexibility.
Madonna's only other UK date for the Sticky and Sweet tour is in Wembley, London.
Tim Rich managing director from Ticketline UK said: 'There sales have been very brisk with people coming through the doors and calling on the phone.'
'It's great for Cardiff and south Wales that Madonna's bringing her visual and audio extravaganza here.'
'In 2006 she came to the Millennium Stadium with her Confessions tour, which was I think the highest grossing tour for a female at the time,' he added.
He said there was a limit of six tickets per person - with prices ranging from £55 to £150.
The star celebrates her 50th birthday on 16 August, days only before the concert in Cardiff on 23 August. The tour will stop in major cities across Europe including London and Paris, as well as cities in the US.

Adoption ruling delayed again

Madonna won't know until next week whether a Malawian boy she found in an orphanage in 2006 will become a permanent member of her family, her lawyer said.
Lawyer Alan Chinula had expected the judge to rule on the adoption Wednesday but said the hearing was delayed after a Malawian human rights group presented arguments on 'shortcomings' in the southern African nation's adoption laws.
Chinula said the group was not challenging the adoption and he expected it to be approved next week.
The pop star and her husband, film director Guy Ritchie, were not present at Thursday's hearing in the Malawian capital. They have been caring for the boy, David Banda, in London. He turns 3 in November.
Chief Social Welfare Officer Simon Chisale, the official overseeing the adoption, paid the Ritchies two home visits, writing in a report that Madonna was a 'perfect mum' for David.
Malawi Human Rights Commission lawyer Grace Malera confirmed that she argued before the judge on anomalies in the current adoption laws, but refused to give details. Local human rights activists have accused the government of bending Malawi's strict adoption laws because of Madonna's celebrity status.

Madonna to build girls' school in Malawi

U.S. pop diva Madonna plans to start building a multi-million-dollar girls' school in Malawi for underprivileged children this year, her local lawyer said on Wednesday.
'A task force of four prominent Malawians has already been formed to head the project which will be on the scale of what Oprah Winfrey has in South Africa,' Madonna's lawyer Alan Chinula told Reuters.
'It is a multi-million dollar project and we will get the real costs in the next two weeks.'
Billionaire U.S. television magnate Winfrey has built a $40 million all-girl leadership academy in South Africa which boasts state-of-the-art facilities including laboratories, a yoga studio and beauty salon.
Malawi's High Court is expected to approve Madonna's bid to adopt two-year-old Malawian David Banda on Thursday. Malawi's government and David's father - his only surviving parent - have endorsed the adoption.
Madonna will not attend the final court ruling on her adoption bid because she is busy with other engagements, Chinula said on Tuesday.
The adoption has been controversial, with critics accusing the government of skirting laws that ban non-residents from adopting children in Malawi, which has been ravaged by an AIDS epidemic that has produced more than one million orphans.

Live Nation on Australia and Japan dates

madonnalicious reader Joe asked Live Nation about any plans Madonna had to include Australia and Japan on the Sticky & Sweet Tour - and this was the response from the Assistant to Arthur Fogel:

Unfortunately, there is no plan for to play either Japan or Australia this time out. The tour schedule is Europe and North America, and has been set.

4 Minutes is 5th most played in USA

This morning Allaccess.com/Mediabase the leading radio monitor in America is reporting that '4 Minutes' is now the 5th most played song in the United States!
The track is getting 6458 spins a week! Unfortunately this may be the peak the song only grew by +100 spins whereas the 4th most played song is getting 7463 spins and grew by +691 spins!
Nevertheless '4 Minutes' is doing incredibly well in the United States. Remember that this is Madonna's most played song since 'Die Another Day' 6 years ago!
