Madonna Strips Down as She Keeps the Party Going

The fun wasn't over for the Met Gala 2013 attendees in NYC last night as they flocked to the Standard Hotel following the ball for the official afterparty at the Boom Boom Room. Madonna stripped out of her bum-baring Met Gala outfit and changed into a fishnet body stocking and black lacy lingerie to mingle with guests like Katy Perry and Frank Ocean.
She wasn't the only star who made a costume change - Amanda Seyfried took off her gown and changed into a baggy black t-shirt to hit the dance floor with Frank. Meanwhile, Miranda Kerr met up with January Jones, Nicole Richie connected with Kirsten Dunst, and Mary-Kate Olsen snuggled with boyfriend Olivier Sarkozy.
Mary-Kate and Olivier weren't the only couple at the late-night bash, as Jennifer Morrison was spotted holding hands with her Once Upon a Time costar Sebastian Stan and Kate Bosworth hugged Michael Polish. Madonna Made A Big Entrance In Givenchy At The Met Gala

After Beyonce took to the carpet, I have to say, a sigh of relief could be heard from the press lined up along either side of the red staircase at the 2013 Met Gala. With King Bey in the house, it had to be all over, didn't it? *Knowing smirk* The Met Gala may have had their king, but there was still one queen who had not arrived. I'm talking of course, about Madonna, the queen of pop incarnate.
Just after Bey made her way all the way through the museum's gilded doors, the tell-tale explosion of flashbulbs and European-accented shouting bubbled up from the photo pit, and our sighs caught in our throats. Madonna had entered, wearing an all-over studded, tartan Givenchy blazer fastened over a fishnet bodysuit and very little else. Well no, that's not true. Although Madge's fantastic gams were on prominent display, there was a whole lot going on in her ensemble, including my personal favorite detail: an oversize padlock choker engraved with the letter 'M.' There were so many more things though!
From the cross hanging down the back of her ensemble like a sacrilegious tail to her bright red lips and magenta pumps, there were countless details, each one elevating the ensemble to new heights of punk rock perfection.
The consensus among those we spoke to seemed to be that to be punk one needs not necessarily, say, have a mohawk or accessorize exclusively with safety pins, and Madonna was no different. I overheard her telling a journalist who asked her about her upcoming trip abroad to build schools for girls, that 'giving girls an education is the most punk thing you can do.' UM, YES. 1000 TIMES YES. But so is totally revolutionizing the place of women in music, performing fearlessly, and WORKING not just fishnet, plaid, and piles of silver, but rocking all three of those things, plus a jet black bob AND red lip TOGETHER.
Could Madonna be the queen of the 2013 Met Gala? We don't like to play favorites, but let's just say it's a close race.

Madonna to exhibit iconic outfits in Los Angeles

Madonna will exhibit her most iconic outfits at a pop-up exhibition.
The popstar is loaning out her costumes for an exhibit at Macy’s department store in Los Angeles to boost sales of her Material Girl juniors line. On display for just two hours, costumes will include Madonna's Jean Paul Gaultier-designed corsets from her 1990 Blonde Ambition concert tour and the beaded white Bob Mackie gown she wore to the 1991 Academy Awards.
'The pop-up exhibit at Macy’s perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line and will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years,' Madonna told WWD.
The singer reportedly chose the outfits herself for the exhibit, with help from her long-time stylist and costume designer Arianne Phillips, who is overseeing its installation at Macy’s. It’s the first time Madonna has loaned out pieces from her own archives for a public display dedicated solely to her costume history.
Fans can also expect to see the printed neon green stretch skirt Madonna wore in the 1984 Borderline video, and the black satin bustier with gold nipple caps and tassels from the Open Your Heart video.
Perhaps Madonna’s single-most famous look in the exhibit dates back to 1984, when she donned a wedding dress and rolled around the floor of the MTV Video Music Awards to sing Like a Virgin. The entire ensemble will be shown, including a white lace corset, white tulle skirt with dot motif, white tulle veil, white lace fingerless gloves and a silver Boy Toy belt.
'It’s a magical thing to bring all these iconic pieces together in one place,' said Dari Marder, chief marketing officer at Iconix Brand Group, which is Madonna’s partner in Material Girl, selling it into 600 Macy’s doors currently. 'This will show customers how influential Madonna has been to fashion and how that influences Material Girl today.'
Madonna's costume exhibition can be viewed at Macy’s Century City, Los Angeles, from 6pm-8pm this Thursday.

Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition to be displayed in London

Madonna's conical bra is going on show at an exhibition on the work of fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
The singer donned the famous bra and corsets on her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour.
They will feature in a major exhibition devoted to the French couturier at London's Barbican next year.
More than 140 cutting-edge couture and ready-to-wear garments spanning Gaultier's entire career will go on show.
Costumes designed for Kylie Minogue - such as the dress she donned in the Like A Drug music video - as well as creations made for Dita Von Teese and Bjork will also feature.
The Barbican described the show, The Fashion World Of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk, as a 'dynamic installation', adding that Gaultier 'feels retrospectives are about dead people, but he is very much alive'.
Some of the outfits have been lent by Gaultier's collaborators but most of the garments come from his own personal collection.
The designer said: 'I am super excited that the show is coming to London...I always want to go to London, because London, for me, is a special place. In England I've got so many souvenirs and I've had so many experiences and I must say that the English were the first ones to come to my shows and appreciate my fashion.'
'If there is one place other than Paris that I should like to live in, it is London. I've got so many connections with London and feel at home there, even sometimes more than Paris.'
The show, which comes from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, opens in the UK in April 2014 as part of an international tour but will be adapted for the Barbican.

MADONNA: A Transformational Exhibition

Richard Corman, who photographed Madonna a few times 30 years ago but who didn't exploit his exquisite portraiture until recently, has partnered with W Hotels Worldwide, vitaminwater and Rock Paper Photo for a new show called MADONNA: A Transformational Exhibition.

The exhibit combines Corman's work with some by George DuBose in what is called a combination of 'music, photography and pop culture.' It kicked off in Mexico City on Thursday 20 September and will travel to Singapore, Paris, Bangkok, Hong Kong and New York throughout the year.

It's not an official Madonna event, but it's interesting to note that Rock Paper Photo is Madonna's manager Guy Oseary's online fine art photography gallery.

Madonna expresses herself, often darkly, in powerful show

Forget marriage, motherhood and the kabbala. Madonna’s startling new 'MDNA' tour - which made its first American drive-by at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Arena Tuesday night — finds her angrier, darker and more unhinged than on any road show of her 30- year career. It’s an idea-intensive, message-packed riddle wrapped in an enigma that must be seen to be believed.
Where to begin?
Where all things Madonna must, of course - with her original nurturing place and nemesis: the church. 'MDNA' kicks off in a shrouded cathedral, exuding ritual, mystery and no end of judgement.
That the star herself blasts into the scene miming her zippy electro-dance gem 'Girl Gone Wild' may sound cheeky and even giddy, but she comes in bearing a gigantic gun - one which, before long, she points directly at the audience.
Those who like their art confrontational may consider this a (literal) bangup start. Especially since it’s followed by Maddy mouthing 'Revolver,' which treats sex as a deadly lure, animated by images of ammunition raining down from the heavens.
From there, the star launches into 'Gang Bang,' which could be history’s first disco murder ballad. Here Madonna blows away an army of intruders with enough relish to secure a starring role in the next Quentin Tarantino gorefest.
Unsurprisingly, scenes like this caused many critics who caught the tour’s European dates to consider the show a disturbing downer. Clearly, that made Maddy self-conscious. Right before the American leg started on Tuesday, she issued a statement spelling out the breadth of her intentions. The long-winded directive stresses that she means the show to capture the 'journey of a soul from darkness to light.'
If so, that soul takes its sweet old time about getting to the light bit, and even then, it rarely stays there long. Even deep into the night, Madonna performed 'Human Nature,' a song recorded during her most confrontational period, the mid-’90s.
She animated it with a striptease that was in no way meant to be alluring - though the star, at 54, does look smashing. Instead, the move aimed to reveal the depth of Madonna’s defiant character, a role she by now occupies with unquestioned authority.
