Madonna Celebrates Michael Jackson’s 58th Birthday

The Queen of Pop is missing her King. Madonna took to Instagram to pay tribute to her late friend and fellow superstar Michael Jackson on Monday, August 29, what would have been his 58th birthday.

Her Madgesty, who herself just turned 58 two weeks ago, posted four feels-inducing throwback pics of the pair from the ’80s and ’90s, including a snap from their iconic red carpet appearance at the 1991 Academy Awards.

'Happy Birthday to this wonderful and glorious creature!!' the 'Vogue' singer captioned the collage. 'πŸ‘‘ The King! Gone too soon! ❀️ ❣❀️❣❀️❣❀️❣❀️❣❀️❣.'

Jackson tragically passed away in June 2009. That same year, Madonna honored her pal and his chart-topping career during a heartrending speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.

'In a desperate attempt to hold on to his memory, I went on the internet to watch old clips of him dancing and singing on TV and on stage, and I thought, β€˜My God, he was so unique, so original, so rare. And there will never be anyone like him again.’ He was a king,' she told the star-studded audience in 2009. 'But he was also a human being, and, alas, we are all human beings, and sometimes we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them.'

During an October 2009 interview with Rolling Stone, the Material Girl revealed that while she and Jackson made a failed attempt to work together, they ended up spending the entirety of their friendship having fun. 'So that’s what we were doing: watching movies, having dinner, hanging out, going to the Oscars, being silly, seeing if we could work,' she told the magazine. 'He got relaxed. He took off his sunglasses, had a glass of wine, I got him to laugh.'

Madonna Makes Surprise Appearance at MOMA's Screening of 'Truth or Dare'

Madonna still loves to shock.

The Queen of Pop made a big entry when she showed up for the 25th anniversary screening of Madonna: Truth or Dare at the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday night (Aug. 24) in New York City.

Some 400 guests were caught off guard when the pop legend, wearing a red off-the-shoulder red dress, turned up unannounced and mingled with fans.

Madonna's revealing Truth or Dare documentary was originally released in 1991 and captured the action and controversy of her worldwide Blond Ambition Tour.

MOMA's special anniversary event included a conversation with the film's director Alek Keshishian, Blonde Ambition Tour choreographer Vincent Paterson, and dancers Jose Gutierez and Salim Gauwloos.

Madonna's Instagram: More from Cuba

Madonna shared some more pictures from her Cuba trip (including one with Debi Mazar) on her Instagram page and looks like they all had a fabulous time:

'Muy Caliente in Havana! πŸ”₯πŸŽ‰πŸΎπŸ˜‰πŸŽ‰πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ί'

Madonna's love letters to feature in documentary

Madonna's deeply personal letters and recordings she made in bed will be included in a new documentary.

The 'Ray of Light' singer's 18-month romance with Breakfast Club singer Dan Gilroy will be the focus of a new film, and her former lover is said to have turned over 'hours' of video, as well as a huge number of letters and photos to director Guy Guido for inclusion in 'Emmy and The Breakfast Club'.

According to the director, the movie - which will focus on the period of 1979 to 1982 when Madonna was living in an abandoned synagogue in New York with Dan and his brother Ed - will include interviews and re-enactments and feature 'sweet little love notes that she would leave for Dan' and 'very poetic love letters Βexpressing her feelings for him and the struggles of their relationship.'

There is also a 20-minute recording of 'silly, romantic bantering' which the couple made in bed and that features Madonna and Dan 'having fun with each other and bedroom talk, and also getting into a little philosophical life discussion.'

The filmmaker insisted using personal material without the 57-year-old singer's consent wasn't a decision taking lightly, but Dan felt it was time to 'share' the 'intimate' footage.

He told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: 'There are some intimate things, but at this point they're ready to share. Especially Dan - he's been holding this in a very long time.'

Guy described the couple's relationship, which began in 1979, as the 'meat' of the movie, but said the documentary also explored Madonna's ambition and determination to make it in the music industry.

He is hopeful the film will be complete by January 2017, and that a major distributor will release it.

Madonna on the cover of LOVE magazine

Madonna will appear on the cover of the next issue of LOVE magazine (out on 19/09/2016) photographed by Mert Alas.

Some quotes from the magazine:

'I don't consider myself a pop act, I consider myself an artist. And it's an artist's responsibility to be revolutionary in our work. It's our responsibility, our duty and our privilege.'

'I was already famous before social media, so for me fame isn't the burden. Fame is the manifestation or the by-product of my work, and that was two decades before social media. Now to me the burden is people are more focused on fame than actually doing the work or being an artist. Now it's easy to become famous. What isn't easy is to develop and grow as an artist without being distracted or consumed with fame.'

'I like Instagram because it's like keeping a diary and every day I get to share different aspects of my personality, my life, and what inspires me, what infuriates me, or what causes I want to fight for. It allows me to be mysterious, ironic, provocative or proud. I get to use it as a platform to bring attention to people or issues that I think are important. It allows me to be the curator of my life.'

Madonna visits Cuba for her birthday

Madonna is the latest celebrity to visit Cuba, dancing in a restaurant for her birthday and touring Havana with her family and friends.

The singer arrived in Havana on Monday. Excited crowds have gathered outside the hotel where she is staying in historic Old Havana, but have caught few glimpses of the 58-year-old star.

Fan Taimi Estrada Joba says she hopes to see Madonna perform a concert in Cuba someday. In her words, 'We are very happy she came.'

A string of U.S. celebrities has visited Havana as part of a boom in tourism set off by the declaration of detente with the U.S. in December 2014. Cuban state media posted enthusiastic reports about Madonna's visit and the Foreign Ministry sent a string of tweets welcoming her.
