Can't believe 'Like a Prayer' is 25 years old. It was the first album i ever bought with my own money - God, i feel old! It remains, in my opinion, her best album and in a canon of classic songs the signature title track is right up at the top as the best song she's ever done. It's never dated and always puts me in a good mood. 'Act of Contrition' aside, every track is excellent and it truly represents the lady M at her peak. 'Ray of Light' and 'Confessions on a Dancefloor' have come close but 'Like A Prayer' is simply a classic. Heaven help me......God, i wish she'd produce something half as good now. Let's hope she ditches the DJs and rapper collaborations on her next record and gets back to working with the people who brought out the best in her. Yes, Patrick Leonard is THE definitive madonna producer and an album co-written and produced by Mr Leonard with help from Nile Rogers, who's back to his very best, would be epic! I know the word is the next album will be ballad-esque and 'Like a Prayer' showcases precisely what i'm hoping the sound will be; 'Oh Father', 'Promise to Try' etc mixed with some uptempo dance tunes. It's been 25 years and i think we're long overdue another classic album.
