Sticky & Sweet Tour: Tel Aviv Soundcheck and Oakenfold Set

Fans who got to the venue in Tel Aviv early had one last chance yesterday to catch Madonna doing her soundcheck. madonnalicious reader Yoni captured the soundcheck in pictures and also managed to grab some pictures of when all the dancers, Rocco and David joined Paul Oakenfold for his set.

I went to see this concert at the O2 in London. I poked my head in (before buying food on the concourse) while Oakenfold was DJ'ing. I had to feel sorry for him. Not one person was dancing, out of the five or six thousand people who had already taken their seats, and it looked like he was just providing backing music while the auditorium slowly filled up with people taking their seats. Even though I'm a fanatical dance music lover, having been to all sorts of commercial clubs and underground raves from the late eighties onwards (including Trade at Turnmills, MOS, Strutt, Bagley's etc. - the list could go on forever), looking at that atmosphereless auditorium with all the bright white house lights still full on, I immediately thought 'Music to take your seat to'. 'Just think of the money, Paul' I thought, consoling him silently from a distance.
If that's Madonna's and her team's idea of a 'warm up' then I think they need to think again about how they organise their concerts in future. I'd have been more 'warmed up' by exposure to super-cooled superfluid at two degrees Kelvin.
