Madonna and Justin rehearsing at Roseland

madonnalicious reader DJ Danny Echi is also the proud owner of the wristband for tonights show and is now #30 in line to get into the venue later - below is his picture of the Roseland marquee.

Madonna, Justin Timberlake and the band are currently rehearsing at Roseland.

Remember fans in the US can watch the show live on MSN at www.music.msn.com/madonna from 10:00pm EDT, and Vodafone customers in several European countries will also be able to catch the show live online.

Madonna on track for #1 US debut

Madonna will leave Warner Bros., the only label she’s ever known, with a bang.
Her final studio album for the Bunny, Hard Candy, is on track to sell between 275-300k, which will handily end Mariah Carey’s two-week reign with E=MC2, according to one-day sale reports from those retailers still standing around this great country of ours.
The Material Gal has one more album, a greatest hits collection, to go before splitting for a long-term deal with concert promoter Live Nation. The album’s her first since 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, which sold more than 8 million worldwide. In the U.S., it debuted at #1, selling 351k copies in its first week, taking the top spot from Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts. In its second week, Confessions on a Dance Floor sold 210k copies and slipped to #4 with a 39% sales decrease. To date, the album has sold over 1.7 million copies in the U.S.

Fans lining up outside Roseland

Here is picture of the fans lining up outside the Roseland ballroom - taken by madonnalicious reader Nick.

Wristbands issued and a wave for fans

Lucky fans who queued outside Roseland last night and early this morning were awarded with their wristbands for tonights show and a wave from Madonna!

madonnalicious reader Fernando sent in this report fresh from getting his wristband (of which only 750 were being issued):

Just got our wristband for Roseland tonight....this wristband will then be switched out for the actual wristband that will be used to enter the venue.
Madonna drove by Roseland in her SUV at around 11:15pm, rolled down her window and waved at all fans standing outside waiting to get their free wristband. It was amazing! She was smiling and looked great! Can't wait till tonight!

Madonna.com updates for the Hard Candy era

Madonna's official website www.madonna.com has been upated for the new Hard Candy era.

Sweet reviews for Madonna's Hard Candy

As parting gifts go, Madonna's 11th studio album - and her last before she exits long-term record label Warner Bros. - is unusually generous, if early reviews are to be believed.
Released internationally this week, and hitting U.S. stores on Tuesday, 'Hard Candy' scored solidly among rock critics, although much of the credit, or blame, they said, should go to the established hit-makers with whom she collaborated.
The dance sounds, with hip-hop influence, see Madonna return to her roots and shed the weighty issues for which she regularly campaigns. And by working with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, she puts safety first.
'It's surprising that her 11th studio album....is an act of submission,' wrote Caryn Ganz of the Rolling Stone music magazine, giving 'Hard Candy' four stars out of a possible five. 'For 'Hard Candy,' Madonna's midlife meditation on her own relevance, she lets top-shelf producers make her their plaything.'
The Independent newspaper's Andy Gill, in a three-star review, argues that Madonna, who turns 50 this year, aims to satisfy 'the sweet tooth of functional dance-pop.'
'Why else would she turn to off-the-peg hit-machines The Neptunes, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, after such success with more adventurous producers like Mirwais, William Orbit and Stuart Price?'
Alexis Petridis, in a three-star rating for the Guardian, calls Timberlake's involvement in 'Hard Candy' a 'mixed blessing,' with the familiar sounds from his last album 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' 'less startling (the) second time around.'
He also slammed Madonna's lyrics, including a line from 'Dance 2night': 'You don't have to be rich and famous to be good.'
But Petridis argued that production duo The Neptunes, including Williams, 'ride to 'Hard Candy's' rescue,' highlighting songs such as 'Incredible,' 'Give It 2 Me' and 'She's Not Me.'
Jon Pareles of the New York Times believed Warner, with which Madonna has worked for 25 years, would be more than happy with the record.
'It doesn't burn bridges with her major label - just the opposite,' he wrote. 'It's the kind of album a record company longs for in the current embattled market: a set of catchy, easily digestible, mass-appeal songs by a star who's not taking chances.'
Madonna, one of the world's biggest-selling artists, ditched Warner Bros. last year and signed a 10-year deal, including a three-album commitment, with concert touring company Live Nation believed to be worth $120 million.
The agreement was an example of the so-called '360-degree deal' that has become increasingly popular in a music business struggling to make money just from selling records.
The '360-degree' deals typically involve publishing, touring, merchandising and digital rights, as well as recording.
The first single from Madonna's album, '4 Minutes' (featuring Justin Timberlake), went to No. 1 in the British singles charts and peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 listing.

4 Minutes added to 27 weeks spent at chart summit

Half of Madonna’s 12 previous number one singles spent a single week at number one but 4 Minutes has no intention of surrendering its title yet, and on its second week at the chart summit it moves further ahead of the chasing pack, securing sales of 49,771 copies following its release on CD.
Madonna’s one week wonders: True Blue, Who’s That Girl, Frozen, American Pie, Music and Sorry. Those that stuck around longer: Into The Groove, Papa Don’t Preach, La Isla Bonita, Like A Prayer, Vogue and Hung Up. All told, Madonna has spent 27 weeks at number one, the same as Take That. The only acts with more weeks at number one are Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Cliff Richard, Frankie Laine and Abba.

Catherine at W magazine wanted to let our readers know about one of their staffers sharing a dining experience with Madonna:

New Yorkers are typically not very impressed with celebrity sightings. But that was certainly not the case Thursday night at Morandi, Keith McNally's latest establishment. While dining with a friend at the trendy Italian trattoria, the one and only Madonna graced us - and the entire restaurant - with her presence.

Early news about the tour

At the FNAC music store release party for Hard Candy in Lisbon, Portugal last weekend a representative from Warner Music revealed some details about a tour.

Everyone who bought the CD received a t-shirt and was entered into a draw to win tickets to Madonna's next world tour in 2008. Dates mentioned included 11 and 13 September in London, 25 September in Paris and 29 September in Amsterdam.

madonnalicious is aware of some ticket agency websites selling tickets for these dates already - but remember the tour is not officially announced and no dates have been confirmed - so it is cheaper and safer to wait until everything is official.
